FreeBSD 6.1, MGE Ellipse ASR600USBS, newhidups & upsd
Hello,
I'm facing problems as I'm installing NUT to monitor a MGE Ellipse
ASR600USBS on a FreeBSD 6.1 box.
UPS is recognized as :
ugen0: MGE UPS SYSTEMS ELLIPSE, rev 1.10/42.41, addr 2
I'm temporarily using root profile (devfs/devd scripts not modified atm).
newhidups starts & runs fine (unplugging mains makes newhidups outputs
lots of data when started with -DDDD flags)

Will MGE-UPS Ellipse USBS auto shutdown?
I have an Ellipse USBS connected via serial cable to a CentOS 3 box.
Do I need to turn off the UPS as the final stage of shutdown, or will
the UPS power itself off, before the battery reaches a level to low to
safely recharge from?
I notice there is the option for the UPS to turn itself off (and on
again) unattended if power is restored during shutdown, but there
doesn't seem to be an option

SUSE 10.0 and MGE Ellipse
Greetings Arnaud and others,
I've been using NUT with Gentoo Linux for a couple of years now. I recently installed SUSE Linux 10.0 and I'm having difficulty getting it to recognize my UPS (MGE Ellipse).
I tried the MGE-PSP package, but the GUI crashes immediately on startup. I decided to get just NUT running correctly before worrying about that. I uninstalled MGE-PSP and am left wtih

newmge-shut warning (was: MGE Ellipse 800 shutdown problems)
I'm now doubting if I've made this statement or not, so here it is:
newmge-shut is *not* ready for production usage!
I've lately found some bugs during the MGE PSP 3.0.4/3.0.5/3.0.6 updates.
So for the moment, prefer to keep using mge-shut.

Re: [nut-commits] svn commit r716 - in trunk: . drivers
Arnaud,
you changed the "if" part, perhaps you'd like to change the "else"
part, too?
Changing the output format of HIDDumpTree() has the potential to break
the functionality of scripts/subdriver/path-to-subdriver.sh; I don't
think it does in this instance, but I have not checked it. Perhaps it
would be good to add a comment in the source code as a caution.

I don't know why we can't read anything from this device. There are
many ways in which one could make a buggy device that works with

MGE Ellipse USB cable config ?
Hi everyone,
This is not directly NUT related, but i don't know where else I can
still ask this.
I have been using a pretty decent 2nd hand MGE ellipse premium 1200VA
for a while now at home. http://www.mgeups.com/download/doc_intl/
small/premium/389uk.pdf
It's been working very well for me on linux, but my linux server has
recently passed away and now I only have Macs left.

I think the naming should be changed to propose both:
- battery.date.mfr: Battery manufacturing date
- battery.date.change: Battery change date
Any comments?

Problems suse 9.3, ellipse premium 500
Hi,
I have installed in suse 9.3 and ellipse premium 500 usb a psp 3.0 with yast2
and versions:
nut-2.0.2-4
mgeups-psp-3.0.0-3
the first time that I launch psp it seems to contact
the UPS and you can make changes to the parameters
and all seems ok. If you make a reboot the psp hangs
up and if you try /etc/init.d/ups it fails:
Starting service NUT:

NUT and MGE Ellipse ASR 1500 under FreeBSD.
Hello,
I have Ellipse ASR 1500 UPS and now I'm trying to monutor it with

MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 USB cable only works if plugged after boot
I have an MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 that I connected to my server using
its USB cable. Nut seems to be working fine. I've done a power down
test and it worked and came back up when the UPS had power again. I'm
using the newhidups driver and the USB cable.
The problem I'm having is that if I boot with the cable connected
newhidups says it can't find the UPS. If I unplug and plug in

Calibrating the Battery on an MGE Ellipse Premium 1200
My new MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 is now working fine. I've tested
pulling the plug and the computer shuts down properly and comes back
up when I replug. The only strange behaviour is that when I put the
power back on the battery shows as being at 86%. If it was at 86% it
should have lasted longer. Is there any calibration step I can do? The
only commands the ups seems to support are:
$ upscmd

[Eaton ex-MGE Ellipse ASR] Disable automatic battery test
Hello everybody,
Our supoprt team is facing a problem which froze the CPU.
They suspect that this happens after an automatic battery test, which
lets the battery goes down to 30% and then stop the test.
At this level of charge, our kernel also triggers a shutdown (CPU and UPS).
I saw (in the doc found here :

MGE Ellipse 500 USB power failure problem
Hello,
I have an MGE Ellipse 500 UPS for about 8 years, connected to a local
OpenBSD server through usb, running nut-2.2.1. I used to occasionally drain
the UPS battery to see if the local server was shutting down cleanly my desktop PC
and it was working OK.
Suddenly, there was a power failure last week, the UPS was serving the two
PCs (the server and the client) for 30 secs and then it went
