Install CentOS directly from usb drive?
Hello:
I followed the instructions here:
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/ch02s04s01.html

the installer comes up and I can do a network install. I have

But, since I have a 4GB usb drive, I am thinking I can

External USB Drive partitioning, formatting and configuring Bacula server
Thanks for your help Sean, did all the steps you mentioned. One thing

it awkwardly? For example, I created 1 Primary partition of 10% disk,
then created 1 Extended partition of 90% disk. Inside that extended

sdb1, sdb5, sdb6 and sdb7. Where's the hell

installing centOS5.5
Want to install CentOS 5.5 by burning the image on DVD. On the link:
http://mirrors.hns.net.in/centos/5.5/isos/x86_64/, there is a list given.
CentOS-5.5-x86 64-bin-DVD.torrent is in the list. So is the download of the
.iso possible only through torrent?
There is CentOS-5.5-x86 64-netinstall.iso Is this also an .iso which one can
download to install CentOS5.5?

install CENTOS 5.4 X86_64 failed???
I just download CENTOS 5.4 DVD ISO X86_64 version from internet. I tried to install it on DELL server and get following error message before RPM start install:
parted_1.8.1-23.els.x86_64.rpm can NOT open
anyone know why?
Should I download it again from any good site?
If I install CENTOS 5.3 and use yum update, will it go to CENTOS 5.4?
Thanks.

extremely slow syncing on btrfs with 2.6.39.1
I''ve been monitoring the lists for a while now but didn''t see this
problem mentioned in particular: I''ve got a fairly standard desktop
system at home, 700gb WD drive, nothing special, with 2 btrfs
filesystems and some snapshots. The system runs for days, and I''ve
noticed unusual disk activity the other evening - turns out that it''s

No DVD Mirrors - Only Torrent
I love Centos. Have in on my data centre servers, my home servers, my
laptop and my netbook. Yes there are serious and continuing security
concerns relating to Gnome and KDE but they are not Centos.
Currently running 5.6 and would like a two set DVD of that version.
However none of the mirrors offer pure DVDs only Torrent versions which
involve the possibility of bits being tampered with and

5.4 DVD
I admit I wasn't following the screaming and yelling about 5.4, so excuse
me if this has been answered....
My boss tells me he wants me to start rolling out 5.4. I want to d/l &
burn a DVD... but when I looked at a number of mirrors, the .iso is from 1
Oct, while the CD .iso's are from the 14th... yet 5.4 was officially
announced the other day.
Am I missing something, or do the

Copying a live system
I want to backup my current CentOS-7.2 system to another drive.
Is it safe to copy the system while it is running?
Eg by
mount /dev/sdb5 /mnt
rsync -HPaxvz /. /mnt/
I've found contradictory advice on the web.

Torrent: reminder to use it folks!
Well, there's so few going right now that I'm showing 38 days to get the
DVD. My normal dnld from a mirror travels appx. 600Mb/sec.
I'll wait until most of the U.S. goes home before I give up and use the
normal download though.
Here's hoping...
