Protection for removable hard drive
My apologies if this is a bit off topic... I am going to start doing backups to removable hard drives and I will need to send these hard drives to an off-site storage facility. I am looking for some way to protect the drives after I pull them out of the system. I was hoping to find some kind of clamshell enclosure similar to what is used with external hard drives, but so far I haven't found

Problem with call pickup -or- what stupid mistake have I made?
For some reason, I can't get call pickup to work between Sip phones or between Sip and Zap phones. All phones are in the same call group and pickup group (1). The source code was downloaded and built as of today 11/15/03. Here's what's in sip.conf: [general] port=5060 bindaddr=192.168.17.2 tos=lowdelay disallow=all allow=ulaw context=aliens ; ; SIP Entry for sipura line 1 ; This

Application Database?
Hey Everyone, I was looking at the App Database : http://appdb.winehq.org/ I was wondering if the rankings for Guild Wars (Platinum) and Everquest (Gold) and other programs etc. were applicable to the Mac OS X platform as well as Ubuntu Linux. When I click on information, the distributions only list Unbuntu and Linux systems. Thanks.

Blasphemous? any support for a REPO of current edition BIND, et al (e.g., BZ561299)?
Hello CentOS Community Members, What is RH's be-all end-all justification for staying with an ancient code base for such important programs as BIND et al? A similar problem (to BZ561299) was first reported five (5) years ago on the isc.org mailing list. Is there any support among the CentOS community for a REPO of current vintage for such important functions as BIND et al? That question is

Possible bug in Vorbis
Hello all, Today I noticed a potentially serious bug in Vorbis encoding. I'm still using RC2, so perhaps it's already been reported and cleared up. While listening to a recording of Moxy Fruvous's "Gulf War Song", I noticed that the vocals at the very beginning clearly have their high frequencies quite attenuated. Sounds like it was recorded through a piece of

how to create analog stripchart plots of x vs t (t=mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss)
Hello r-experts, I sure could us a little help. I have an ever updating text file with timestamped data in it. I can reformat in anyway I want if need be but currently I have chosen to make columns of date, time and measuresed value (comma delimeted and with the dates and times in quotes to interpret them as strings). Here is a small section of my text data file:

R on Ubuntu
Hi everyone, first of all, my sincerest thanks for the maintainers of this massive project. Such a compelling task! Briefly, I?m a PhD student working on Spatial Stats who loves R. Last week I decided to install and use Ubuntu (again). Consequently, I install the latest release (18.04) and tried to install R 3.5.0 as well but (un)fortunately I couldn?t. I have used R within Ubuntu and I use to

Help on drawing stars and radars in R (update)
Hi I don't know if you can help. I am a 2nd year Bsc Cosmetic Science student and in R I need some help in drawing stars. The problem that I have is I want to recreate a radar diagram similar to the one in excel. I have put in these commands in a script window: stars(shampoo1[, 1:6], locations = c(0,0), radius = TRUE, key.loc=c(0,0), main = "Ranked Results for the Sensory

Suggestion for New User
I, like many people, am starting to learn Ruby because of Rails. I am going through several tutorials and am understanding the concepts without too much difficulty, but the one area I am having trouble with is learning the new language. I am not a trained programmer. Rather, I learned how to program out of necessity and therefore lack some of the background that many of you have. I am

Using variables within a string - The function doesn''t pass the value?
Hello everyone, As a beginner to ROR, I am very confused regarding why the following is happening. If my function is defined as def self.home_categories (portal_id) find(:all, :conditions => [ "portal_id=?", portal_id ] ) end the following doesn''t works (the database is queried with a value of 0. portal_id=1 @categories =

Some questions on repeated measures (M)ANOVA & mixed models with lme4
Dear R Masters, I'm an anesthesiology resident trying to make his way through basic statistics. Recently I have been confronted with longitudinal data in a treatment vs. control analysis. My dataframe is in the form of: subj | group | baseline | time | outcome (long) or subj | group | baseline | time1 |...| time6 | (wide) The measured variable is a continuous one. The null hypothesis in

Mac OS X installer: missing files fix
I've paraphrased the OS X installer developer's comments: there's a bug in Installer that is preventing the archive from working right. Below is the fix for the problem. First (obviously) run the installer. Since the executables are in the archive.pax.gz file in the installer package, first do a "show package contents" on the package file, then unstuff the enclosed

Noise Cancellation of Server Noise
Has anyone come across a device that could cancel out the noise from servers, ie. the fan noise? I have a server rack near my office and would like to see if i can decrease the noise level. It would seem to me that the steady drone of the fans could be cancelled out to a large extent.

Re: using shapefile as owin
My sincerest apologies, as this is a very elementary problem, but I have searched through archives and FAQs and on the web, and I am at the end of my own resources. I need to do analysis of a spatial point process occuring with four counties, using spatstat. I've had no trouble importing the shapefiles, but I can't seem to figure out what I need to do in order to use the boundary as an

problems with shared segments
A couple of weeks ago I noted that shared segments weren't working. Alexandre said that he fixed it. I wasn't in the position to build a fresh wine at the time. I am now but it doesn't seem to work still. I replicated the problem with a test exe, the basic Hello, World generated by MS VC 6 for a Windows program, with a single variable in a shared segment that is statically
