Centos5 install failure
A couple weeks ago I attempted to install Centos5 to replace an increasingly decripit Fedora Core 1 installation. Centos went onto an 80GB piece of previously unallocated space on /dev/hda, using the default configuration offered by anaconda. The installation process went smoothly, however, I was unable to boot Centos when it completed due to "Grub failure." IOW, I never even got

CentOS5 beta installed
I have just successfully installed CentOS5 beta from CDs. No major issues so far, but it is still too fresh to say anything. The machine I used is peculiar. By peculiar I mean it won't boot if I use grub (this is a long story by itself). So, I manually installed lilo to boot the system. The only problem is that I could not use kdump. It produced an error saying "No bootloader config

Or, if I need more than one command, what are they? You should wget that file and run the rpm command as instructed in that wiki. Akemi: Having the proper command did the trick! Thanks a million! It's installed. :-) Lanny

Centos5 NFS install from loop-back mounted DVD image fails
NFS install from a loop-back mounted DVD image fails for me when it actually tries to start the RPM install process. I come to the point where anaconda checks the package dependencies, then it tells that the install process will be started in some minutes and the last thing I see is a message similar to: Preparing transaction from install media. Then this message box disappears and the install

doing a new install on top of existing software raid-1
Hi all! One of these days I'm going to upgrade my centos 5.7 box (which is currently configured with raid-1 on two drives) to 6.x. i've been given to believe that I should be able to do a fresh install on top of the existing raid setup, i.e., without having to re-create the raid array, but just use the existing setup. and somewhere in the last few days (in this list I think) someone

DVD install via NFS asks for CD #1 ISO
Hi all, I'm installing Centos 5.0 (fresh install) x86_64 via NFS. I've downloaded just the DVD iso via bittorrent, but when it starts the graphical installation phase an error message appears telling me that anaconda can't find the CD iso in the remote server. Seems that's looking for Centos-5.0-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso, I'm downloading it right now to go ahead but... I think

Base install not on first CD with centos5?
I have everything unchecked in my package selection screen except for the default packages in "base" and it wants CDs 1, 2 and 3. Is this an upstream problem or centos problem? How should I follow up on this? A bug report in centos's bugzilla? Mike

Skype Public Key - How to install PGP Public Key in CentOS5, from alternate site that I have in web browser?
Hello: A simple question: On this Wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype it says that the normal method for the Public Key isn't working. I copied the URL for the alternate key location http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/infosys/phone/skype/rpm-public-key.asc into the browser and I get a PGP Public Key. Question: What rpm command do I use, to Import the Public Key that's in the browser

Issue with installation on wireless-only desktop workstation, CentOS 7(1511)
I realize that many on this list have likely applauded the NetworkManager package split that removed wireless stuff into its own package, NetworkManager-wifi, because for wired workstations and servers it might be desirable to not have any wifi software installed. And I believe it was a sound technical decision to do the split. However, in doing a fresh installation of what most call CentOS

For those of you who are going to do the update from the centos5 beta to centos 5 proper despite the warnings, this is a(n incomplete) list of instructions for how to accomplish this 1. Get yourself into runlevel 3 (telinit 3 from terminal) as the dbus update will die if you're in X. 2. Akemi, Noted, thanks. I am trying to rebuild all packages which require ffmpeg. Already hit problems with gstreamer-ffmpeg, had to give up and resort to using its internal ffmpeg. I'll let you guys know when stuff is ready so we can test. -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! Nux! www.nux.ro ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Akemi Yagi" <amyagi at
