TwoAddressInstructionPass::isProfitableToConv3Addr()
A similar setting occurs with ARM Thumb code which for many instructions has a short 2-address encoding and a longer 3 address form. As far as I know this is done by selecting the 3 address form and rewriting them to 2-address after register allocation where possible. See lib/Target/ARM/Thumb2SizeReduction.cpp.

Hi (Jakob),
in reference to the prior message below, I have the following follow-up questions, as I also need a scheduling pass
prior to regalloc. I need to do this in order to set VLIW-flags, so that the RA is aware of several MI's
per cycle with a redefined LiveRange::overlap-function. On a multiple-issue cycle, a register that gets killed
can be reused by another MI - these live ranges do

thank you for your explanations.
In order to get a pre-RA scheduling, I would need something like:
- LiveVars
- PhiElim
- TwoAddr
- LiveIntervals
- Coalescing
- Scheduler (new)
- SlotIndexing
- LiveIntervals2 (new)
- RegAllocMy qeustion then is, is it really so difficult to create the live intervals information, with modifications to the original algorithm, or even from scratch?

I am combining 16-bit registers to a 32 bit register in order to make a wide store, as per below:
732 %reg16506:hi16<def,dead> = COPY %reg16445<kill>;
740 %reg16506:lo16<def> = COPY %reg16468<kill>;
748 %r3<def,dead> = store %reg16506<kill>, %r3,
As you can see, LiveVariables has marked the high part dead, even though the super-register is used at

TwoAddressInstructionPass bug?
Hi,
we are in the midst of an interesting work that begun with setting
'guessInstructionProperties = 0' in the SystemZ backend. We have found
this to be useful, and discovered many instructions where the
hasSideEffects flag was incorrectly set while it actually shouldn't.
The attached patch and test case triggers an assert in TwoAddress.

The two address pass is only concerned about register pressure. It sounds like it should be taught about profitability. In cases where profitability can only be determined with something machinetracemetric then it probably should live it to more sophisticated pass like regalloc.
In this case, we probably need a profitability target hook which knows about lea. We should also consider disabling

Liveness Analysis
So what is the status about LiveVariables. Is there a plan to remove it?
After searching in old lvm-dev-mails it is mentioned that LiveVariable
still exists due to one pass needing it. And a comment in
TargetPassConfig.cpp indicates that the pass in question is
TwoAddressInstruction:

Liveness Analysis
Where is the liveness analysis pass? I have been looking for days but
cannot find anything.
I just want to know transfer variables in and out of basic blocks, that are
calculated using simple data flow equations.

Hi all.
I'm looking for an advice on how to deal with inefficient code generation for Intel Nehalem/Westmere architecture on 64-bit platform for the attached test.cpp (LLVM IR is in test.cpp.ll).
The inner loop has 11 iterations and eventually unrolled.
Test.lea.s is the assembly code of the outer loop. It simply has 11 loads, 11 FP add, 11 FP mull, 1 FP store and lea+mov for index

[LLVMdev] register constraints
Hi,
I have worked with GCC prior to using LLVM, and I am a bit startled to find no way to use an earlier operand as is done in GCC.
For example, a sext instruction on my target takes one the operand of a low-part register, and then sign extends into the full register.I find that there is no way to use for example (set RC:$srsc, sext($src, 16)), or in any other way use a sext operator to perform
