Modifying objects with MC
A mutable interface to object files would be great to have but doesn't exist in any meaningful sense in LLVM today. David's hack and similar tricks are what's necessary right now.
I'd love to fix that as its a question that comes up not infrequently.

Updated patch to work with mainline.

[LLVMdev] ELFObjectFile changes, llvm-objdump showing 'wrong' values?
Hi all,
I'm using the MC framework for a project, and while updating to latest
trunk (r148672) encountered the following issue:
It seems that SymbolRef::getAddress and SymbolRef::getFileOffset have
been changed to add the symbol's offset to the offset of the
containing section?
This has the following implications:
To get the /actual/ fileoffset, I now need to do:
Symbol.getFileOffset()

[LLVMdev] ELFObjectFile changes, llvm-objdump showing 'wrong' values?
Hi,
I would like to examine the implications you mention in more detail.
(1) Symbol address
According to the ELF standard, in a symbol table entry st_value means: "In relocatable files, st_value holds a section offset for a defined symbol. That is,
st_value is an offset from the beginning of the section that st_shndx identifies." (*)
Therefore, when queried about a symbol's

[cfe-dev] Orc Windows C++
It’s pretty intermittent at the moment…sometimes I get the relocation overflow issue, sometimes I get another issue about BSS sections having no contents.
The source code to reproduce either is simple:
#include <iostream>
int main (int argc, char* argv[])
{
}
I’ve managed to reproduce the BSS section issue in clang consistently, and since that comes before terms of where it happens in

Oops, sorry for the spam.
That last comment was incorrect. It’s IMAGE_REL_AMD64_REL32 not _5

That's great news, thanks! If I can be of any help, let me know. :)
I'll see if I can reduce the example for the relocation issue whilst you're
at it.

Joshua

How to objcopy via LLVM toolchain for armv7e-m ELF32LE?
Hi LLVM developers,
As PR35281 mentioned:
$ llvm-objcopy -O binary llvm-cortex-m7.elf llvm-cortex-m7.bin
llvm-objcopy: 'llvm-cortex-m7.elf': The file was not recognized as a
valid object file.
if (ELFObjectFile<ELF64LE> *o =
dyn_cast<ELFObjectFile<ELF64LE>>(&Binary))

IIRC, this error might be due to not linking against the MCJIT library

[LLVMdev] Implementing the MC-JIT execution path for ELF, with debugging
Hello,
I'm part of a team at Intel that works on implementing the MC-JIT execution path for ELF objects with built-in support for debugging the JITted code with GDB. We currently have a working implementation passing all ExecutionEngine tests on MC-JIT for ELF, as well as several proprietary workloads. The current implementation focuses on Linux, although with some trivial modifications it

[LLVMdev] Win32 COFF Support - Patch 3
Hi Michael,
Overall patch looks good. I do have a few comments below. My main
comment is please try to make the style match that used in the
MCMachOStreamer more closely. I intend to refactor more functionality
into the base MCObjectStreamer class, and having them use consistent
idioms makes this easier; specific instances are included in the

[LLVMdev] possible bug in COFFObjectFile::getSymbolType()
I'm working on adding data detection to llvm-objdump, so it prints out raw
data for symbols with type SymbolRef::ST_Data instead of disassembling them.
This causes llvm/test/MC/ARM/Windows/mov32t-range.s to fail, because the
symbol "truncation" comes back as SymbolRef::ST_Data, and the code gets
dumped as bytes instead of disassembled.
I traced the problem back to

[LLVMdev] SymbolRef and getSize
Hi everyone,
I’m currently playing with the clang driver and I encounter a strange bug.
It occurs when I used the getSize function from the SymbolRef class.
On iOS, the number returned is not always correct (some function have the right size).
Sadly,
This is my code (at the end of the main function into driver.cpp) :

[LLVMdev] possible bug in COFFObjectFile::getSymbolType()
The section is .text, so I assume it’s got IMAGE_SCM_CNT_CODE set. The problem is the symbol is marked (read & execute), but the test is (read & !write), so the symbol gets marked as ST_Data instead of ST_Other.

[LLVMdev] ELFObjectFile::getSymbolFileOffset
While working on some other changes I came across a problem where ELFObjectFile::getSymbolFileOffset was returning a different value than I expected in the case where the symbol in question was a section. Looking at the code, it seems obviously wrong, but I didn't want to just commit my change without at least asking if anyone knew of a good reason for the current behavior. I know there

[LLVMdev] llvm-objdump related patch
Michael,
I have rework the patch according to your suggestion. And I have
read binutil/objdump source code and found that it has a logic that if
there's no symtab, it will use dynsym, which is missing in llvm-objdump.

Kaleidoscope tutorial: comments, corrections and Windows support
Hi,
I'm currently working my way through the tutorial with LLVM 3.9.1 on

be improved:
- "LLVMContext" does not exist as a variable -> "TheContext"
- Chapter 3: 5 times
- Chapter 4: 1 time
- Chapter 5: 4 times
- Chapter 6: 2 times
- Chapter 7: 2 times

[LLVMdev] LoadedObjectInfo::getSectionLoadAddress
Hi Lang,
LoadedObjectInfo::getSectionLoadAddress takes StringRef as an arg. That breaks if the object file has multiple sections with the same name. I made a change to add an overload that takes a SectionRef&. Can you please take a look?
