Spinning mongrels and SIGUSR1
First off: Our clusters are LVS balanced Apache 2.2.3 +
mod_proxy_balancer + gem mongrel 0.3.13.3 / mongrel_cluster 0.2 +
memcached / gem memcache_client + gem rails 1.1.6 on debian boxen, and a
pgcluster backend.
On 2 of our deployed clusters, we are getting the "spinning mongrel"
problem. As the clusters are very low volume right now, it takes days to
collect a spinner, making it

Mongrel spinning on read_multipart
On Zed''s suggestion, I caught two new spinning mongrels and sent a
SIGUSR2. The code appears to be stuck in read_multipart for both processes:

multiple memcached buckets in CentOS 7
Hi Alberto,
With systemd it will be as easy as creating additional unit files ( one for
> each memcached instance) with its corresponding config file. That should

> also being systemd compliant.
Thanks for the info and for the examples. It really does make sense the way
you explain it. Thanks for letting me

cached_model and memcache-client slowness
Hi there,
I''ve got a Rails app that''s a little unusual in that it maintains a
database representation of a filesystem (for an image gallery). Thus, if
the filesystem is essentially ''out of date'' then the controller''s list
action will end up invoking a model update (which involves a filesystem
scan).
I''m using sqlite3 as this app will be

Recommendation: Stalled Mongrel? Memcache Hates Spaces
Hi Everyone,
There''s quite a few of you who have contacted me about Mongrel suddenly stopping. After a lot of investigation, I found that the common thread between all of you is memcache and Eric Hodel''s memcache-client. People who were running this combination would have intermittent pauses and investigating the stalled mongrels showed that memcache-client was waiting for

mongrel, memcache and sessions
Hi,
I''m using mongrel-0.3.13.3 with memcache-client-1.0.3 for storing sessions.
It was working fine with actionpack-1.12.0, but when I upgraded to
actionpack-1.12.3, I started getting a "can''t convert String into Hash"
error from memcache.rb from memcache-client.
I was able to fix it by changing the way the MemCache object was created in

Fragment caching with Memcached slow?
Hi,
I am trying to do fragment caching using :mem_cache_store. However, when I
compare it to fragment caching using :file_store, it seems to be a lot
slower.
Here are the results:

problem that I am certain is user error?
The configuration details below work in all my other environments
including integration, development and qa. However, the production
servers give the following error:

expire_fragment with memcached
Hello all,
We know that memcached or memcached-client doesn''t support regex... But
It seems it doesn''t support expire_fragment either :/
I''m trying to use expire_fragment with memcached as following :
expire_fragment(:controller => ''home'', :action => :list_posts)
But apparently it''s not supported by memcached :

The New Memcache ?
Hey All !
I ended up browsing to Eric Hodel''s blog the other night, and found his
entry about the new cache_model and memcache-client.
Now, it looks like it''s "officially" out in the open:
http://weblog.rubyonrails.com/articles/2006/01/20/caching-models-with-memcached
In my application, I''ve been staying away from caching my models, and

multiple memcached buckets in CentOS 7
Hey guys,
OK so I'm pretty familiar with how to edit an init script for memcached so
that I can get multiple memcached 'buckets' when starting up the service.
The init script would ususally have multiple lines such as these under the
start function:
# cache_block
/usr/local/bin/memcached -d -m 128 -l `hostname -i` -p 11318 -u
daemon -c 8172 -v 2>> /tmp/memcached.log

puppetd port issues
I configured my rsync daemon to be restarted when the rsyncd configuration
file changes.
When the rsync daemon gets restarted by puppet, it listens on the same port
puppetd does, so running puppetd again results in an error.
The init script for rsync is small and can not be changed from puppet (all
variables are declared within the init script and it only searches for the
path where the rsync

rsync problem in systemimager
Hello,
I'm working on the oscar-1.3 release with my Linux Itanium's cluster to
test cloning process via systemimager.
After having succeeded to boot my client node via the network, when
running the following script : /var/lib/systemimager/scripts/ced1.sh
rsync is able to get small files (e.g : mkdosfs). However, when the
script tries to rsync the whole oscar image in the following way :

deadlock issue: 1.8.6/fastthread/memcached-client/mongrel
Hi all,
I''m getting a strange, intermittent Thread deadlock in production:

Memcached Server - Memory Consumption
I was just testing the memcache server on a Windows box and had set it
up as a Windows Service and to my surprise (or my shock really) it was
using 47+ meg of ram with no data even loaded in it yet. Has anyone
else used the Windows port of memcached for their Rails projects and if
so how much ram was it using?
Does memcached use less memory on Mac OS X or Linux than Windows?
Thanks for any
