[LLVMdev] [lld] question on ELF section formating

Hi, After looking at the Normalized Readers in mach-o, I feel it would be nice if the Gnu flavor to adopt this design what mach-o did in addition to using obj2yaml. Its so much easier to test in the context of lld with normalized readers, IMO. Opinions ? Hi, With the inputGraph now, lld models command line options, input files as nodes in the InputGraph called InputElements. In the current approach, each InputElement is converted to a LinkerInput, which works if all lld deals with individual files. Dealing with ControlNodes (Groups), have a problem with it, on how to model that as a LinkerInput. Joerg/Me were chatting on the IRC about this

I do think we have too many classes. I thought InputGraph was going to replace InputFiles. It seems link LinkerInput could be merged into FileNode. Originally InputFiles was the abstract interface that he Resolver used to see all the inputs. If InputGraph supported the methods forEachInitalAtom() and searchLibraries() then we could get rid of InputFiles and have the Resolver uses InputGraph

If I understand your proposal correctly, here's the thing: if file is not in group, each individual file is wrapped with LinkerInput, but if it's in a group, it's not -- instead the entire group is wrapped with a LinkerInput. Hi, On MIPS st_other field in the ELF symbols table might contain some additional MIPS-specific flags besides visibility ones. These flags should be copied to the output linked file. If YAML => Native conversion is switched off, there is no problem. But in case of the conversion we lose st_other field values. So I need an advice how to keep this information. [LLVMdev] LTO and Optimized libraries don't mix
When using the ARM cross compiler we've run into an issue with LTO and optimized libraries. Consider you have an optimized library opt.a, which contains a version of memcpy. Compiling with LTO (something like), clang myTest.c opt.a -flto -o myTest causes myTest.c to get compiled to bitcode. Then the bitcode gets passed to the linker. Thanks for the reply Pete. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is going to be as simple as ignoring those loads which only store. In findCommonType(), only one alloca is passed in at a time. So, while you could find those cases where that alloca was loaded from and stored elsewhere, you can’t find those places that store to that alloca from somewhere else (at least not easily that I can see).
