You can't get there from here
Having been accomodating about it in the past, the technical geniuses at Comcast have permanently blocked port 25, separating me (at my home office) from my employer's e-mail server. What can be done on the server side to keep Postfix listening on 25 _and_ accept my connections on some other port? Is there a Postfix solution? iptables maybe? Miark

Compromised
My wife's office server was compromised today. It appears they ssh'ed in through account pcguest which was set up for Samba. (I don't remember setting up that account, but maybe I did.) At any rate, I found a bazillion "ftp_scanner" processes running. A killall finished them off quickly, I nuked the pcguest account, and switched ssh to a different port (which I normally do

pcre vs. regexp for Postfix checks
What are your opinions on pcre vs regexp for header_, body_, and mime_checks in Postfix? I looked at the regexp_table and prce_table man pages, and see almost no difference other than the available flags. Miark

Zen arch in 5.0?
So there's more patches in the pipeline to land, then? Zen arch in 5.0?
Will 5.0 have scheduler, reg alloc etc. bits for explicit support of AMD's 1st gen Zen (Ryzen, Epyc) arch? Is it safe to assume that the changes for Zen's 2nd gen will land prior to the hardware release, once the 1st gen is added? I think zen2 will arrive next year.

OT? Creative Zen player not registering as a USB device
I plugged my son's new (Christmas) Zen V player into my CentOS 5.1 box and it doesn't register as a device that the system can see or mount. If I lsusb, it shows up as bus 2, device 8, but there is no corresponding /dev/??? device for it, so the system can't get at it. (I tried my flash drive in the same USB port and it works fine, so it's not the hardware.) How do I get around

Port 631 closed, not hidden
I have the firewall turned on my CentOS 5 box, but GRC is reporting that 631 is closed instead of stealthed. If the firewall isn't configured to allow that, then why might that be happening? Miark

Apparent BIND problem doing RBL lookups for Postfix
My apologies if I'm posting the wrong place, or am asking a common question. All my looking so far hasn't turned up anything very useful in knowing what to look at, or what to modify. --- CentOS 5, running BIND 9.3.6 i386 Hardware: P4, 2.8Ghz, 1G memory Sata drives - non mirrored etc. Load is light, usually under 0.1 -- This box is running Postfix as our mail server. Spamhaus with Zimbra Mail on CentOS
I realize this is slightly off topic, but I've noticed recently that I've been unable to preform RBL lookups using the the zen and sbl spamhaus RBL lists. Currently using Zimbra Collaboration Suite using CentOS 5 I'm seeing logs showing the following output. [root at phantom ~]# cat /var/log/zimbra.log | grep spamhaus Jul 18 13:07:12 phantom postfix/smtpd[27001]: warning:

SELinux and Perl script using sendmail
I have a webpage feedback form that uses a Perl script to send e-mails with "| /usr/sbin/sendmail -t". It works just fine, but SELinux is complaining about it: SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/postdrop (postfix_postdrop_t) "getattr" to pipe:[41117] (httpd_t) I'm a SELinux newb so I don't know what (if anything) to do about it. Suggestions? Miark

Single NIC & Backup : Newbie
Hi, I am taking my first steps towards virtualization. I have 3 Gateway Servers; all on CentOS 5.3 (non-graphical mode) + Squid. We have 3 separate teams each of 5-7 users who use 1 ISP each via their own Gateway server. I am keen to use virtualization and consolidate all 3 servers on a single server. I plan to install ZEN on a Pentium Core2Duo with 2GB RAM & 1 nic. Then create 3 virtual

convert metaflac tags to utf-8?
Hi, I realize that this is not strictly flac-related, but... I've got my collection in flac now, and at the end of the endeavor, I realized that (I think...) I've managed to have a few different encodings in the tags, one way or another. For instance: [root@localhost Zen Arcade]# metaflac --list 01-Something\ I\ Learned\ Today.flac > 1 [root@localhost Zen Arcade]# metaflac
