[LLVMdev] Problem in X86 backend (again)
Hi, I'm still having problems implementing my custom inserter in the X86 backend. I found a solution to my last problem (http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/llvmdev/2014-October/078296.html), by using a virtual register. The binary works when it's compiled in -O0, but not in -O1,-O2,... I really can't figure what I'm doing wrong... Any idea? Here is the code of my custom

[LLVMdev] Problem in X86 backend
Hi, I'm having some trouble wirting an instruction in the X86 backend. I made a new intrinsic and I wrote a custom inserter for my intrinsic in the X86 backend. Everything works fine, except for one instruction that I can't find how to write. I want to add this instruction in one of my machine basic block: mov [rdi], 0 How can I achieve that with the LLVM api? I tried several

[LLVMdev] Virtual register problem in X86 backend
Hi, I'm having trouble using virtual register in the X86 backend. I implemented a new intrinsic and I use a custom inserter. The goal of the intrinsic is to set the content of the stack to zero at the end of each function. Here is my code: MachineBasicBlock * X86TargetLowering::EmitBURNSTACKWithCustomInserter( MachineInstr *MI, MachineBasicBlock

[LLVMdev] Code Generation Problem llvm 1.9
I sent a long message yesterday describing a problem I thought had to do with the JIT stubs. After further investigating, the problem seems to be in the code generation. The following basic block seems to have an error in it's code generation: __exp.exit: ; preds = %codeRepl258, %__exp_bb_bb.exit phi double [ 1.000000e+00, %codeRepl258 ], [ %.reload.reload.i,

[LLVMdev] help with X86 DAG->DAG Instruction Selection
I have an llvm ir, which generates the following machine code using llc (llvm 3.0 on win32) after # *** IR Dump After X86 DAG->DAG Instruction Selection ***: The first three lines and the last two lines alone together are used to compute "sin" for some double number. - line 1: move the stack pointer down 8 - line 2: copy the updated stack pointer to a base register - line 3: copy a

[LLVMdev] Adding a stack probe function attribute
I started to implement inlining of the stack probe function based on Microsoft's inlined stack probes in https://github.com/Microsoft/llvm/tree/MS. Do we know why the stack pointer cannot be updated in a loop (which results in ideal code)? I noticed that was commented in Microsoft's code. I suspect this is due to debug or unwinding information, since it is allowed on Windows x86-32. I

[LLVMdev] RFC: Machine Level IR text-based serialization format
Hi all, I would like to propose a text-based, human readable format that will be used to serialize the machine level IR. The major goal of this format is to allow LLVM to save the machine level IR after any code generation pass and then to load it again and continue running passes on the machine level IR. The primary use case of this format is to enable easier testing process for the code

Mischeduler: Unknown reason for peak register pressure increase
I am working on a project where we are integrating an existing pre-RA scheduler into LLVM and we are trying to match our peak register pressure values with the machine instruction schedulers values while using X86. I am finding some mismatches in test cases like the one attached. The registers "AH" and "AL" are live-out but not live-in and I don't see that they are defined

subloop - flexible coding - variable number of loops
Hello, I want to create a flexible code for the following example: In stead of using a different code for each n (as in my example below), I want to write a general code for every n (n from 1 to 10). I tried a lot of things, but I always got stuck with the number of subloops or witch closing the brackets. Any suggestions? Cheers, Peter Department of Mathematics and Statistics

[LLVMdev] Mapping bytecode to X86
Dear guys, I am in need of more of your help. I'm implementing a register allocator, and I am having problems to make it produce correct code. Consider this program here: int main(int argc, char ** argv) { int i, j, sum; i = argv[0][0]; j = argv[0][1]; sum = (i + j) * j; printf("Sum = %d\n", sum); } that maps to this llvm bytecode: entry (0xa785590, LLVM

What does a dead register mean?
You are right about your interpretation of "dead". The case here is that RSP is a reserved register and so its liveness isn't really tracked. The "implicit-def dead" is an idiom used to mean that the register (reserved or not) is clobbered. The other implicit uses/defs can come from instruction definitions to indicate that this instruction uses and/or modifies a given

[LLVMdev] RegAllocFast uses too much stack
I discovered recently that RegAllocFast spills all the registers before every function call. This is the root cause of one of our recursive functions that takes about 150 bytes of stack when built with gcc (same at -O0 and -O2, or 120 bytes at llc -O2) taking 960 bytes of stack when built by llc -O0. That's pretty bad for situations where you have small stacks, which is not uncommon for

[newbie] trouble with global variables and CreateLoad/Store in JIT
Since the getelementptrs were implicitly generated by the CreateStore/Load I'm not sure how to get access to them. So I hacked the assignment to be done thrice: once using a manual decomposition into two GEPs and stores, once using the "big" CreateStore, once via the setGlobal function, printing addresses and memory contents at each point to the degree that I have access to them.

What does a dead register mean?
Hi, My understanding of a "dead" register is a def that is never used. However, when I dump the MI after reg alloc on a simple program I see the following sequence: ADJCALLSTACKDOWN64 0, 0, 0, *implicit-def dead %rsp*, implicit-def dead %eflags, implicit-def dead %ssp, implicit %rsp, implicit %ssp CALL64pcrel32 @foo, <regmask %bh %bl %bp %bpl %bx %ebp %ebx %rbp %rbx %r12 %r13 %r14
