[LLVMdev] Citing LLVM
In the past, I've just referenced Chris's CGO 2004 paper when referring to LLVM: C. Lattner and V. Adve. LLVM: A compilation framework for lifelong program analysis & transformation. For sub-projects like Clang and DragonEgg, I just cite the URLs: [4] Clang. clang.llvm.org. [5] DragonEgg. dragonegg.llvm.org. I don't know of any canonical references for these. On Sun, Apr 14,

[LLVMdev] llvm jit
hello, I have a question about the llvm jit. Does it use the profile information generated during runtime to enhance the generated code for arm processor? according to 'LLVM: A Compilation Framework for Lifelong Program Analysis **<http://llvm.org/pubs/2004-01-30-CGO-LLVM.html>' it is available but can't find it in the current source code. I really appreciate any help. Thanks in

So, what is the use of the profile passes in LLVM? Also, does llvm detect hot blocks of code for recompilation? [LLVMdev] Auto-vectorization and phi nodes
Hi Vesa, The pass IndVars changes the induction variables to allow SCEV to analyze them and enable other optimizations. This is the canonicalization phase. Later on, LSR lowers the canonicalized induction variables to induction variables that map nicely to the target's addressing modes. In many cases it can remove some of the induction variables. I suspect that the loop vectorizer does

[LLVMdev] Auto-vectorization and phi nodes
Hi Nadav and Hal and thanks for the help! To the best of my understanding, indvars doesn't complain and an induction variable is detected. However, the loop vectorizer says: LV: Checking a loop in "add_vector" LV: Found a loop: Loop LV: Found an induction variable. LV: Found an unidentified PHI. %a.ptr = phi float* [ %a, %Top ], [ %a.next, %Loop ] LV: Can't vectorize the

[LLVMdev] Auto-vectorization and phi nodes
Hi all, Sorry if this is a dumb or FAQ or the wrong list! I'm currently investigating LLVM vectorization of my generated code. My codegen emits a lot of recursions that step through arrays via pointers. The recursions are nicely optimized into loops, but the loop vectorization can't seem to work on them because of phi nodes that point to gep nodes. Some simple IR to demonstrate; it

[LLVMdev] A new project proposal for LLVM and calling help from a chinese student
Mingxing, Your project sounds interesting and if it significantly improves over the live variable analysis that is in LLVM right now, I think it could be a useful contribution. I'm copying the 'llvmdev at cs.uiuc.edu' mailing list, which you should join. Send all related messages to this list to get feedback on your goals and also to get help with any problems you face.

I work primarily with Visual Studio and LLVM myself and have absolutely no objection to dropping VS2010. In fact, I stronly support such a move, as the VC++ compiler has improved quite a bit recently, especially in the

Instruction selection algorithm
Is the algorithm described in the article "Near-Optimal Instruction Selection on DAGs (https://llvm.org/pubs/2008-CGO-DagISel.html)" really used in llvm instruction selection? I've studied implementation (SelectionDAGISel.cpp) and I see that instructions are selected by target specific MatcherTable generated by llvm-tblgen. In the implementation the first matching pattern from

Question about Instruction Selection
Hi, I'm new to LLVM and I'm doing research on factors of compilation time, especially instruction selection and scheduling. One of the academic papers I read, https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/www-pubs/trunk/2008-CGO-DagISel.pdf (Koes, David Ryan, and Seth Copen Goldstein. "Near-optimal instruction selection on dags."), which is also said to be the algorithm LLVM currently

[LLVMdev] a question about LLCO
Hi everybody, Recently, I found the Lifelong Code Optimization project on the website. And I have a question here, would you please explain it for me? In the home page of the project, it is said that the Goal of the project is to enable mordern programs to be optimized at link time with all static binary code. Here I wonder, why the library code must be static, i.e. why a dynamically

Specs on TableGen Instruction fields: pattern, ins and outs
Hello. Are you aware of any document (preferably academic paper) describing TableGen's typing of the following fields used to describe Instruction: pattern, ins and outs. I found a few pages on TableGen, but none of them talking about these fields: http://llvm.org/docs/TableGen/LangRef.html http://llvm.org/docs/TableGen/LangIntro.html
