compiling libarchive
Has anyone been able to compile libarchive and archivemount? I want to
use this with fuse.
The compile is very tough for libarchive, I keep getting
c -o tar/bsdtar-util.o `test -f 'tar/util.c' || echo './'`tar/util.c
mv -f tar/.deps/bsdtar-util.Tpo tar/.deps/bsdtar-util.Po
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I./libarchive -I./libarchive -g -O2 -MT
tar/bsdtar-write.o -MD -MP -MF

FreeBSD tar errors on valid empty tar.gz
Seems our current libarchive? That support FreeBSD's tar implementation has
a bug where it can create archives it cant read back. This can be seen
by simply creating an empty tar.gz file and then trying to expand or
list it.
In doing the above you get the following error:
tar: Unrecognized archive format: Inappropriate file type or format
N.B. gtar can list and expand the created file

tar - ssh - standard out
Hi
I have a process that creates 'some data' and outputs this to standard
out and i want to shift this data over ssh to a remote box without
ever writing anything locally. I have been experimenting with tar to
create the archive as the i dont know what the contents of 'some data'
might be so i just need to capture it and output it on the other side.
I have been trying with

Newer versoin of tar 1.26 on Centos 7
I have no idea what 'Yocto' is, but CentOS 7 includes two other tar utilities: 'bsdtar' and 'star'
Maybe one of those will give you what you need?

Not Able To tar zxvf zaptel-*.tar.gz
I figured it out. The ftp site was not named well and corrected. The other
problem I have it after the extraction and make; it was suppose to go under
/etc but that did not happen. I am trying to figure out why.
