[LLVMdev] whether these transformations are doable and how?
Hi folk, I'm a newbie to llvm, please first forgive my naive questions. I want to instrument llvm code to do some run-time monitoring work. After reading some of the llvm documentation, it begins clear to me that I can do the instrumentation in a transformation pass. There are several things I want to do in the transformation pass, but I'm not sure whether they are doable and how to do

RFC: Introduce DW_OP_LLVM_memory to describe variables in memory with dbg.value
Hi Reid, Thanks for taking this on, I'm very pleased to see improvements related to debug info for optimized code. (You can cc me on code reviews, although I'm sure a lot of the patches will be in areas I am not very familiar with.) While I have a really good handle on the DWARF standard, and have done a bunch of work with the type stuff, my understanding of IR mechanics is pretty naïve,

[LLVMdev] Variable name from metadata
Hi All,   Can we extract name of variable name from "MDNode" ?   1. Neither temp_MDNode->getName() nor temp_MDNode->getValueName() give me "global_int" which is name of a variable.   2. I tried below ways as well. DIVariable DV(mdnode1); Value *v = mdnode1->getOperand(0);//gives add 0x69   3. I have written below code to reach till variable name.        LLVMIname is

[LLVMdev] Accessing metadata & creating DIVariable
Hi, I am wondering if someone can guide me in adding metadata to IR which already contains some metadata. I am trying to add dbg.declare inst for a local variable I added to a function. I used the DIBuilder to build a DIVariable. When I try to compile llc fails with following message. llc: MCAsmStreamer.cpp:273: virtual void<unnamed>::MCAsmStreamer::EmitLabel(llvm::MCSymbol*): Assertion

[LLVMdev] whether these transformations are doable and how?
Thanks for all the replies which are really helpful. one more question regarding transformation: 4. Given an instruction %x1 = I1, can I replace the rhs "I1" with "I2" and get a new instruction %x1 = I2? Alternatively, I can add a new instruction %x2 = I2, and replace all uses of %x1 with %x2, and then delete %x1 = I1, but it seems the former is simpler or faster if

[LLVMdev] Allowed types llvm.dbg.declare's "storage" parameter
Hi everyone, I have a question about the llvm.dbg.declare instrinsic which I am using through DIBuilder::insertDeclare(): What kind of instructions are supported as the "storage" parameter? Is it only allocas? I've also had some success with a combination of llvm::Argument and DIBuilder::createComplexVariable(). That is, create a DIVariable with one additional OpDeref and then

[LLVMdev] get function local debug info?
Hi, If I have an instance of DISubprogram, can I get the debug info of local variables of the function, including parameters? I tried to use the getVariables() function defined in DISubprogram, but it seemed to return an empty DIArray node when I ran my pass alone using opt. Do I need to enable any other analysis passes in order to populate the data? My related snippet of code is like the

[cfe-dev] RFC: CodeView debug info emission in Clang/LLVM
I think it'd be reasonable to at least figure out a good way to do type references consistently across the two schemes, but I'm OK with the idea of having a blob of opaque type information for different debug info formats, created by frontends (& don't mind if the library for building that blob live in LLVM or Clang for now - the DWARF one at least would probably live in LLVM

[LLVMdev] Assertion failure (Bug 21609) in DwarfFile.cpp
Hi Folks, I ran into this assertion failure while compiling a function with a large number of arguments: https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=21609 I have coded up the fix as per David's suggestion (added a new header field for DIVariable to separate out ArgNo & LineNo). The proposed diff is attached to the bug. However, there are around 175 testcases across clang & llvm that need

[LLVMdev] Is va_arg deprecated?
Hi folk, I'm writing a set of small C code to verify whether my pass handle some instruction correctly. One of the instruction I want to test is "va_arg", but compiling my variadic function does not generate any va_arg instruction. Is va_arg deprecated? Will va_arg instruction ever be generated by any front-end? The source code and llvm instructions are appended as follows. the
