It seems newer versions of VMware Tools for Windows can be uninstalled also when the guest does not run on VMware anymore. I use wine to run version 2.5 of the official flickr uploader and use ctrl + mouse click to select multiple files. Pretty often the ctrl doesn't work so that all the other files are deselected.
