So this would be something like:
template <class T>
virtual class Iterator {
T next(); // or void?
};
So the power of having two types of return parameters is that you save

[LLVMdev] Closing in on an initial release of Tart
I've been absent from the list for a while due to a number of unexpected
circumstances, including a hard drive failure on my primary desktop machine.
However, the good news is that after 4 years of work, my LLVM-based compiler
is nearing the state where I feel comfortable declaring an official 0.1
release.
The language is called "Tart" and the one line summary is "Tart is to

[LLVMdev] Iterator protocols
This is related to the general question of efficiency of unwinds. I'm
mulling over whether to use the Java-style or Python-style iterator
protocol for my language. The Python style is to have a special
exception (StopIteration) that is thrown when the end of the sequence is
reached. The Java style is to have a separate "hasNext" method on the
iterator object that says whether or

[LLVMdev] Cast failure in SelectionDAGBuilder
I'm trying to track down the problem with the assertion failure in
SelectionDAGBuilder.cpp. This is the code:
*case* *Intrinsic*::gcroot:
*if* (GFI) {
*const* Value *Alloca = I.getArgOperand(0);
*const* Constant *TypeMap = cast<Constant>(I.getArgOperand(1));
* FrameIndexSDNode *FI =
cast<FrameIndexSDNode>(getValue(Alloca).getNode());*

[LLVMdev] Static destructor problem with recent HEAD
Interestingly, I also get a similar error in a different executable (my
unittest):

[LLVMdev] non_lazy_ptr question
So, I've got a case where I am attempting to pass the address of a static
symbol from a module written in Tart (the language I am working on), to a
module written in C (which is part of Tart's runtime library). This works
fine on Linux, but fails on OS X because the address being passed is the
"non_lazy_ptr" symbol, not the symbol itself.
In my .bc file, I've got code that

[LLVMdev] Strange exception in SelectionDAGBuilder
I'm working on the code to handle GC tracing of "intermediate values" (as
described in the GC doc), and I've run into a weird problem. (Note, this has
nothing to do with the patch I have proposed, this error occurs with regular
old pointer-allocas.)
The exception I am getting occurs in this code here in
SelectionDAGBuilder.cpp:
*case* *Intrinsic*::gcroot:
*if* (GFI) {

[LLVMdev] Strange exception in SelectionDAGBuilder
Hi Talin,
I think that the framework for GC assumes llvm.gcroot to be in the first
block. If it is not the case in your example, it will break these
assumptions.

[LLVMdev] New Type System Questions
So far I'm really liking the new type system -- I've been able to simplify
my code generator in a number of areas. And the IR is now vastly more
readable, both in the debugger (using dump()) and when printing modules via
llvm-dis. It's a tremendous improvement.
I do have a few comments / questions:
-- I think I may be misunderstanding how named structs are supposed to be
combined in
