[PATCH 0/5] Improve LVM handling in the appliance
Hi,
this series improves the way LVM is used in the appliance: in
particular, now lvmetad can eventually run at all, and with the correct
configuration.
Also improve the listing strategies.
Thanks,
Pino Toscano (5):

daemon: lvm-filter: start lvmetad better

Partitioning with LVM
I've been reading up on recommended partitioning scheme and looking at
Centos 5 beta's default scheme, it struck me that with LVM, it doesn't
matter any more as long as we leave aside enough room for /boot, does it? Or
am I still missing something here? Thanks!

extlinux from syslinux 4.04 failed hard after choosing bzImage.
Hi,
Today I replaced grub(1) with syslinux on my laptop, after rebooting to
syslinux and selecting kernel I got massive freeze along with colorful
output to screen - http://i.imgur.com/lFjFc.jpg
I think I tried everything, even doing esc and writing after boot:
/bzImage-3.1.0, after enter I had the same freeze with the same screen
artefacts.
How I installed extlinux:
mkdir /boot/extlinux

3TB usb drive won't mount
Hi list!
I have a 3TB usb drive with an NTFS filesystem on it, that I can't mount.:
[bent at bnlaptop ~]$ sudo /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt
Failed to read vcn 0xf28: Input/output error
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows

interesting kvm lvm collision issue
I've been running into a reproducible problem when using default LVM volume
group names to present block devices for virtual machines in KVM, and I'm
wondering why it is happening.
On dom0 I make a default VolGroup00 for the operating system. I make a
second VolGroup01 for logical volumes that will be block devices for virtual
systems.
In VolGroup01, I make two lv's for one system:

Questions about software RAID, LVM.
I am planning to increase the disk space on my desktop system. It is
running CentOS 5.9 w/XEN. I have two 160Gig 2.5" laptop (2.5") SATA drives
in two slots of a 4-slot hot swap bay configured like this:
Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

to lvm or not to lvm - why/when to use lvm
Hi,
I was wondering, why/when it is useful or when should I avoid to use LVM.
I think the big advantage of LVMing is if you modify (rezising, ...)
disk and filesystem layouts "a lot".
Are there any real pros or cons for following situations regarding e.g.
management and speed?
e.g.:
I do have a server system raid for which the disk layout will not
change; e.g. /var /usr /home will

using LVM thin pool LVs as a storage for libvirt guest
Hello,
as usual, I'm few years behind trends so I have learned about LVM thin
volumes recently and I especially like that your volumes can be "sparse"
- that you can have 1TB thin volume on 250GB VG/thin pool.
Is it somehow possible to use that with libvirt?
I have found this post from 2014:

AoE LVM2 DRBD Xen Setup
Hello everybody,
I am in the process of setting up a really cool xen serverfarm. Backend
storage will be an LVMed AoE-device on top of DRBD.
The goal is to have the backend storage completely redundant.

LVM storage
Hi. I have some narrow questions and a larger one.
If I make an existinig LVM VG a storage pool, can I use some of the LV's for libvirt and some for the host? Or does the VG needed to be completely dedicated to virtualization?
Assuming mixed use is possible, is it possible to do an LVM snapshot of an LV in use for a VM? The snapshot would have to be initiated and used on the host, I

live migration to localhost with lvm based storage
I have lvm based (thin pool) storage on local disks. I need to move
vps from one vg on one disk to another. Does it possible to migrate to
localhost with blockcopy migration to another vg?
I'm understand that i can move lv from one vg to another, but i don't need that.

Increase Disk Space with LVM
Dear CentOS-Community,
we have a server with four hard drives that are configured as raid10
(/dev/sda).
Now, /home and /root are almost full. Therefore, we decided to buy four
additional hard drives that should configured also as raid 10 (/dev/sdb).
I want to use LVM to extend disk space for root and home.
My (successful) test procedure in a virtual environment looks like this:

Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago.
I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB.
Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives
I then created a /file_storage partition on /dev/md0.
I created my /boot / and swap partitions on

LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried
an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot
etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove'
it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just
hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not
come on during this. The
