[LLVMdev] Exception handling in JIT
Hi everyone,
Here's a patch that enables exception handling when jitting. I've
copy/pasted _many_code from lib/Codegen/DwarfWriter.cpp, so we may need
to factorize it, but the functionality is there and I'm very happy with
it :)
lli should now be able to execute the output from llvm-gcc when using
exceptions (the UnwindInst instruction is not involved in this patch).

[LLVMdev] Exception handling in JIT
Dear all,
Here's a new patch with Evan's comments (thx Evan!) and some cleanups.
Now the (duplicated) exception handling code is in a new file:
lib/ExecutionEngine/JIT/JITDwarfEmitter.
This patch should work on linux/x86 and linux/ppc (tested).

It is if you think that code emitter should only be used for actually
writing somewhere the data. It is not if you find it another useful
utility ;-)

Except it's pretty slow at it. :-)

[LLVMdev] Exception handling in JIT
Hi Evan,
My apologies: I've been so excited on sharing the functionality that I
forgot to review my patch!

I am also interested in working on this area and interested in writting a
COFF file backend.

corrupt/invalid wav
I posted the bug at http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?func=detailbug&bug_id=130992&group_id=13478 . Since all my other discs were encoding fine I thought that the wav file may be corrupt/invalid/or something. I opened them with cool edit and "saved as"ed them to my drive. These files encoded fine and the extraced/converted files have the correct md5sum. Is there a program that can

[LLVMdev] GSoC 2011: Fast JIT Code Generation for x86-64
Hi All,
I'd like to propose a fast path through code generation for x86-84 in
the JIT execution engine as part of 2011's Google Summer of Code
program.
While the LLVM-JIT is very popular as a first try at jitting
programming languages, projects have abandoned the LLVM-JIT when
disappointed with the overall runtime. The problem is, that the
benefit of faster execution is traded for longer

[LLVMdev] MachO and ELF Writers/MachineCodeEmitters are hard-codedinto LLVMTargetMachine
I like the idea of a generic MachineCodeWriter, although I prefer the
name 'ObjectFileWriter'...
I think we need to take a hard look at which bits of the
Writer/Emitter infrastructure are needed for what tasks (Object File
Emittion, JIT, etc.) and make sure that our abstractions are flexible
enough... As it stands at the moment, the Writer and Emitter classes
could definately be merged

[LLVMdev] Being able to know the jitted code-size before emitting
Hi,
Two questions. 1) How are you computing size of the method being
jitted? 2) Why not simply add the functionality of allocating emission
buffer of specific size to MachineCodeEmitter instead?
Thanks,
Evan

I add a new pass with addSimpleCodeEmitter, with the emitter being a
SizeEmitter. Since the target calls the emitter with functions such as
writeByte, writeWord, etc.... the SizeEmitter class implements these
function by incrementing a counter.
At the end of the pass, the code size of the

[LLVMdev] MachO and ELF Writers/MachineCodeEmitters are hard-coded into LLVMTargetMachine
Currently, the MachO and ELF Writers and MachineCodeEmitters are
hard-coded into LLVMTargetMachine and llc.
In other words, the 'object file generation' capabilities of the
Common Code Generator are not generic.
LLVMTargetMachine::addPassesToEmitFile explicitly checks whether the
derived backend TargetMachine implements one of getMachOWriterInfo or
getELFWriterInfo, and returns a
