[LLVMdev] LLVM-2.5 WinXP/Cygwin can't find puts() for the hello.c in GettingStarted document
Hi, Chuck
> How could I fix this WinXP/Cygwin only thing?
windows does not support dynamic linking, so there are 2 ways of
providing external addresses of symbols:
1. register them explicitly
2. They should be available from some .DLL already preloaded into the binary.
However, I'm not sure for 2. since cygwin uses unix-style of external
symbols resolution.

[LLVMdev] LLVM Hello Pass load error when using opt -load Hello.so
Thanks, Shu,
I guess I haven't updated since my post went out.
There are actually 2 problems:
1. mis-compilation:
My LLVM-2.5 turned out to be mis-compiled using gcc-4.4.0 (surprise to
me) on Debian4-32b.
I tried a few different compilers, and gcc-4.0.4 (a relatively old one,
again surprised me) seems to work out fine.
Question: is there a good/quick/reliable way to figure out whether a

[LLVMdev] can't run the Hello Pass: registered multiple times
Anton and John,
Thank you for the valuable info.
I guess the MinGW/Cygwin path is dead, at least for now.
How about the problem of registering the pass multiple times under Linux
(Debian4-i386)?
opt -load Release/lib/Hello.so -hello < test.bc > /dev/null
opt:
/autofs/steffan/a/a0/czhao/ResearchTools/LLVM/2.7/llvm-2.7/lib/VMCore/Pass.cpp:234:

[LLVMdev] can't run the Hello Pass: either not registered or registered multiple times, what is the problem?
I am trying to run the HELLO LLVM Pass under WinXP/MinGW, by following
the precise steps available at
http://www.llvm.org/docs/WritingAnLLVMPass.html.
The pass failed to run, giving me the following error:
opt -load Release/lib/Hello.dll -hello < ./hello.bc > /dev/null
opt.exe: Unknown command line argument '-hello'. Try:
'C:\MSYS\opt\llvm-2.7\bin\opt.exe -help'

[LLVMdev] [patch] website/trunk/docs/GettingStarted.html
Hello,
seems like GettingStarted.html is outdated regarding the version numbers
of the autoconf tools. I've changed it so they meet the versions in
AutoRegen.sh.

Hi Josef,
llvm/docs/GettingStarted.html (in the main llvm svn repo) seems up to date. The "website" module in svn is an old broken thing that

[LLVMdev] LLVM Hello Pass load error when using opt -load Hello.so
Hey Chuck,
I'm afraid I can't reproduce your error but...a problem you may run
into later is that opt will complain with
opt: llvm/lib/VMCore/Pass.cpp:149:
void<unnamed>::PassRegistrar::RegisterPass(const llvm::PassInfo&):
Assertion `Inserted && "Pass registered multiple times!"' failed.
Aborted
I "fixed" this by replacing the LLVMLIBS line in

Please carefully read the link I provided and add patch as an

OK -- now as an attachment. Sorry for the git format (no svn checkout
right now), but GNU patch should accept it.

[LLVMdev] Patch for GettingStarted.html
Hey,
I have written a few lines about Release and Debug Builds (SVN checkout
vs. LLVM distribution). I've also added the RELEASE_25 tag to the tags
list and corrected a typo.
Can someone please review? As I'm not a native speaker/writer it may
contain strange wording/spelling mistakes ;). Any feedback welcome.

While learning to write LLVM passes and following the precise

I got this error when loading the hello pass to run the test program:

[LLVMdev] Unnatural loops with O0
Hello everybody,
we noticed that llvmgcc4.2-2.2 sometimes generates non-natural loops
when compiling to bytecode without any optimizations. Apparently what
happens is that the loop header is duplicated, which results in two
entry points for the loop. Since this could obstruct subsequent loop
optimizations, it might be interesting to further investigate this behavior.
To show the problem, I have

LLVM IR models a general-purpose unprivileged CPU instruction set and so lacks anything to do I/O. If you want to interact with anything beyond the CPU and stack, you must either call a library function, issue a system call, or modify some
