Don't mix VC runtime and libgcc. These are totally different libraries for doing

[LLVMdev] Byte code portability (was Re: libstdc++ as bytecode, and compiling C++ to C)

Not llvm, but llvm-gcc only. I've successfully used llvm-gcc for
crosscompiling with host=linux and target=mingw32 platform.
So, you have just to supply host, build and target triples to llvm-gcc
configure and be also sure, that configure will find target headers,

[LLVMdev] Release building on Mingw & Cygwin
Hello everyone.
The bug in ld prevented release build of LLVM on Mingw & Cygwin is
fixed by now. You might get the patch for binutils sources at
http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2659
Hope, this fix will be included in the next binutils release.

This was fixed couple of months ago. Please consider using current svn
top of tree, not 2.3 release.

[LLVMdev] win32 assemblers and linkers for llvm
Yes, you are right. During my testings, I tried the llvm produced .S files
with the gcc frontend and it compiled and linked them to the final
executable.
The problem is with the gcc and binutils licence. This is GPL and while this
is ok for open source or for academic purposes, it can't be used on
commercial projects. In fact one of the strong points of llvm (and clang) is
its BSD like

Oh, no. They are always compiled.

[LLVMdev] Improving link time building llvm
Just FYI, we discovered that GNU binutils 2.17 has a nasty bug in the
linker that causes excessive link time when building llvm. We switched
to using cvs binutils and our link times went from minutes to seconds.
I didn't see anything about this on the web pages. It might be good
information to add to the Getting Started guide.

llvm-as != as. You'll need to have binutils installed in order to compile & link.

[LLVMdev] Release 1.6 LLVM-Cfrontend build error on cygwin
Dear llvmdev,
I am new to LLVM , but have a task on writing a LLVM backend to generate some architecture specific assembly file.
Here is my cygwin build setting: GCC 3.4.4 , BIN UTILITY 2.15 ,and all other packages of the right version listed on the LLVM Getting Started doc.
I have successfully built Release 1.6 LLVM. All the tools has been installed there /usr/local/bin .
But I

[LLVMdev] win32 assemblers and linkers for llvm
Razvan,
You're somewhat misinterpreting the GPL license. Using binutils as a
dependency of LLVM does not require that they be linked into any
distributable that might contain proprietary code. They can be
shipped as separate, purely-GPL'd executables that are called via the
command line, thereby avoiding the whole "infection" problem.
This is, for instance, how

[LLVMdev] Building LLVM under Mingw. Part I: tools-only
Hello, Everyone.
Now I have some spare time and I've decided to build LLVM on Mingw.
I've grab the latest 1.7 release (not CVS snapshot). Here are some
issues fixed during the build. Now I'm preparing gcc build. So, I
think, there will some other "parts"
1. Prerequisites
1.1 GCC 3.4.5 from mingw.org site.
$ gcc --version

Is there a binutils snapshot that can be used instead ?

Isn't is possible for cmake just to glob everything in the corresponding
directory?

[LLVMdev] Problem compiling with clang + gold plugin: no archive symbol table
Hi,
I build llvm with gold plugin, clang and the binutils(and it's put into the
PATH) with plugins support.
ld.gold is renamed to ld. A quick test of clang -flto -O0 hello.c can
succeed.
But when I try to export CC="clang -v -flto" and compile MySQL, it failed
in the linking with the following error message:
"/home/ryan/binutils/bin/ld" -export-dynamic -z relro
