Dear All, Just a reminder that some work on our heating/cooling system will be done tomorrow between 8 am - noon Central time. If server room temperatures get too high, the IT staff will start shutting machines down. Since the LLVM server may need to be shut down on short notice, I can't guarantee that we can give you advance warning of it going offline. I strongly urge everyone to

[LLVMdev] Potential Outage Tonight
Dear All, When it rains, it pours. I just got an emergency email that a chilled water feed to the Computer Science department stopped working, causing the temperature in some of the machine rooms to get over 100 degrees F. Machines in those rooms have been turned off to prevent damage. It looks like llvm.org has been affected, but the mailing lists are still working. However, temperatures

UPS cooling
I've kludged together a cooling solution for my UPS - one USB cable, one 8cm fan from an old unused computer (nominally 12V, but running it at 5V is fine), two short pieces of copper wire and a few fragments of power cable insulation to hold the wires in place against the 5V and GND pins (let's just say that shorting 5V with a data pin doesn't sound like a good idea to me). Leaving it

[LLVMdev] Possible llvm.org Downtime
Dear All, On Monday, March 17, the computer science building will have its cooling system turned off for maintenance. During that time, the offices and computer labs in the building may get warm, and as a consequence, we may need to power off machines. While I am hoping that down time will be unnecessary, we may need to power down llvm.org during the cooling outage. It is also possible

APC UPS won't restart after power outage
Hi Installed new APC Back-UPS CS 350 on single server running openSUSE 11.2 64-bit and configured NUT 2.4.1 (SUSE package) according to instructions. When testing, NUT shuts down the server correctly and instructs the UPS to power down. UPS does so after some 20s delay, everything without errors. But after restoring main power, even after waiting for 1/2h UPS does not by itself turn on again,
