[LLVMdev] ARM backend playing with alternative jump table implementations
Hi list:
I have been trying to get my feet wet with the ARM backend.
As a warmup exercise I wanted to be able to move
jumptables especially large ones out of the code section.
Currently the idiom for jump tables loooks like this
// .set PCRELV0, (.LJTI9_0_0-(.LPCRELL0+8))
// .LPCRELL0:
// add r3, pc, #PCRELV0
// ldr pc, [r3, +r0, lsl #2]
// .LJTI9_0_0:

MachineInstr sizes for ARM jumptables
Hi llvm developers,
I might be overlooking something, but I think the ARMConstantIsland
pass uses the wrong size for the MachineInstrs representing jump
tables: Currently, there is the following calculation in
doInitialJumpTablePlacement
(lib/Target/ARM/ARMConstantIslandPass.cpp:588):
----------------------------------------------------------------------
unsigned Size = JT[JTI].MBBs.size() *

[LLVMdev] Is -m32 supported by llvm-gcc when using LTO/gold?
I have gold from cvs, and llvm-gcc/llvm from svn. My platform is
Ubuntu 9.04 x86_64. I've configured llvm-gcc with "--enable-multilib".
When compiling the LTO example from
http://llvm.org/docs/LinkTimeOptimization.html I have no problems with
64-bit compilation, but get the following with -m32.
luked at node:~/tests/lto$ make USE32=1
llvm-gcc -m32 -c -o main.o main.c

[LLVMdev] patch for llc/ARM: added mechanism to move switch tables from .text -> .data; also cleanup and documentation
Hi:
This is my first patch submission. Hopefully, this is the proper the protocol.
Attached is a patch for the llc ARM backend:
Added mechanism to generate switch table in a data section
rather than having it interleaved with the code.
This is controlled by command line flags and off by default.
Also, tried to document and improve the code where I modified it.

[LLVMdev] LTO question
I've been asked how LTO in LLVM compares to equivalent capabilities in GCC. How do the two compare in terms of scalability? And robustness for large applications?
Also, are there any ongoing efforts or plans to improve LTO in LLVM in the near future?
Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks,

Evan:
Sorry for the late follow up, I was out of town last week.
Enclosed please find the updated patch including all
your suggestions and a dejagnus test.

Converting a character string into an object variable
R-helpers:
Assume that I want to create a series of sequentially named R objects. For
example, I might want to call these objects V1, V2, V3 ... V50. To do this,
I thought of some sort of looping function like:
input.value <- seq(1:50) * 3
for(i in 1:50){
paste("V", i, sep="") <- input.value[i]
}
Of course this loop will not work since the paste function

EL5.1 client problems
Hi all,
I attempted to add an EL5.1 client to our puppet server (EL5), and after
signing the client cert, got the error "Certificates were not trusted:
hostname not match with the server certificate"
I found the mailing list discussion and the relevant page:
http://www.reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/RubySSL-2007-006
As far as I can tell, my puppermaster''s cert CN matches

[LLVMdev] LTO for smaller memory footprint for Clang
Hi all,
I was trying to use LTO facility of LLVM to reduce the footprint of
Clang itself. I build the ld-gold and LLVMgold.so as described at [1]
and then set the environment as described too. However, had to add the
path for plugin manually as Clang was not able pass it to ld
automatically. Following is the setting I used before starting to
build (small foot Clang.

Missing data analysis in R
I am looking for a book that discusses the theory of multiple imputation
(and other methods of dealing with missing data) and, just as
importantly, how to implement these methods in R or S-Plus. Ideally,
the book would have a structure similar to Faraway (Regression),
Pinheiro&Bates (Mixed Effects) and Wood (GAMs) and would be very modern
(i.e. published within the last couple of years).

Opinion on R plots: connecting X and Y
Attention R users, especially those that are experienced enough to be
opinionated, I need your input.
Consider the following simple plot:
x <- rnorm(100)
y <- rnorm(100)
plot(x, y, bty='n')
A colleague (and dreaded SAS user) commented that she thought that my
plots could be "cleaned up" by connecting the X and Y axes. I know that
I can do that with bty='l' but I

Making TIFF images with rtiff
Many medical journals and publishers require that images, whether
photographs or line art, be submitted as high resolution .TIFF images.
One option for R users is to produce an image in one format and to
convert it to a .TIFF file using a second software program. My
experience has been that this option often results in images of poorer
quality, often with blurry contours, and a loss of

How to debug if LTO generate wrong code?
Hi Umesh,
Thank you for the suggestion. I can use the "Brute force method " to narrow down the LTO wrong instructions here and there, but I still don't know why these wrong instructions are generated, and how to let Clang LTO don't generate those wrong instructions.
I suspect the wrong code is caused by some LTO wrong optimization pass, so I hope to disable all optimizations in

Measuring correlations in repeated measures data
R-helpers:
I would like to measure the correlation coefficient between the repeated measures of a single variable that is measured over time and is unbalanced. As an example, consider the Orthodont dataset from package nlme, where the model is:
fit <- lmer(distance ~ age + (1 | Subject), data=Orthodont)
I would like to measure the correlation b/t the variable "distance" at
