[LLVMdev] compilation failure on OS X powerpc
The reason I didn't use Xcode 2.4 is because I'm running OS X 10.3.9
(Panther). I have not upgraded the OS to 10.4. Xcode 2.4 requires OS X
10.4, according to Apple's website. Do you know otherwise? I think the
highest Xcode I can get is 1.5.
By the way what does FSF mean?
I also tried compiling llvm with the gcc 3.3 that comes with OS X 10.3,
and it gave the exact same error

Power PC with a linux distribution and R
This is an operating system question, but it is with the intent of
using R on that operating system. I have an ibook G4 Power PC that I
am going to install linux on. Is there a better, worse, or perhaps
easier (I am a linux newby migrating from mac) distribution that I
should look at. I appreciate your help. I didn't post this in the
sig-mac because I don't know if it fits there better

general questions about R on debian/powerpc
Hi,
I am about to but a laptop, and have narrowed the choices down to a
Dell Latitude 600 and an Apple Powerbook G4 Aluminium (Princeton
provides these models at a discount for grad students).
I am biased towards the Powerbook, and would like to run Debian on it.
I have only used debian on i386 platforms so far. I use R quite
frequently, so I would be interested in your experience of running R

Darwine problems?
Hey guys I got a ibook g4, I installed darwine, I tried running MSN Messenger 7.0 "it says it works" and it doesn't work I just get an error saying it didn't worry and has closed. I tried utorrent, same deal, then I went to the darwine folder and went into applications and tried clocks.exe and that didn't work either.
Help me out?
Thanks

image 256 x 920 data points too slow
Dear R gurus,
I'm trying to visualize a matrix 256 x 920 using image(), but i find
the display too slow (~ 1 minute ?? admittedly, my iBook G4 isn't
very fast). The aim is not to get a good resolution image, but rather
have a quick look at the matrix. I couldn't find a way to plot a
smaller set of points from my data in a sensible manner (basically, i
want to decrease the

File locking from Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)
Dear list,
My system administrator at office runs a SMB server for us all to
share files at smb://server/share/ , on which we share mainly MS
Office/OpenOffice.org documents. I have recently switched to iBook G4 with
Panther. After the switching, I can connect to the SMB server using
Panther's built in SMB capability (under Finder). But then we discover
that when I open a file on

problem with R on mac os x
Hello all,
R just ''stopped working'' on my machine (ibook g4, os 10.3.9). between
last time I used it and now, I did not do anything but check emails and
browse the internet. when I try to start the GUI, it appears and
disappears as rapidly. when I tried to run a session from the terminal,
I got the following:
mkdir: /tmp/Rtmp590-29493: Permission denied

Can't run regression on G3 Mac
Hi, I'm new to R. I was wondering if anyone has an OS X native installation
(not Carbon) of R on a G3 Macintosh that is able to run linear regression?
I installed Jan de Leeuw's R binary for OS 10.2 Jaguar on my laptop, which
is still a G3 model. When I try to run a simple regression, using lm, I get
an "Illegal Instruction" message and R quits. Jan thinks it may be the case

excluding libraries at configure
I'm trying build R-1.8.1 on a apple g4 that I've just upgraded
to panther. Configure quits with complaints about "linking
to Fortran libraries from C fails". Based on some comparisons
with a fresh g5 install that worked...I conjecture that this
is due to the fact that /sw/lib on the g4 contains lots of stuff from
the prior jaguar installation, and ./configure wants to include

Rails Development on a Mac Mini?
How many people out there are doing Rails development on a Mac Mini? I''ve
been eyeing up the MacBook as well as the new MacMini trying to decide if I
want to splurge. I''ve been doing very little Rails development thus far
which makes the investment a little hard to justify. The Free Mini Mac (
http://minimacs.freepay.com/?r=16778073) offer seems like the best route but

Jaguar Samba Servers etc.
I suppose this has already been asked and someone is going to tell me what
chapter of the HOWTO to read but has anyone configured a Linux server to link
up Windows whatever(say ME) and Mac OS X.
Is this the best(highest speed and cheapest we are talking small
non-profit.org here) way to do it? That is have a Linux machine doing
everything a server does-this way dont have to waste G4 on server
