Maybe OT - Centos 5 SATA JMicron JMB361 SATA
Hi All,
I know Centos 5 is almost EOL and all this is old but....
I'm helping a colleague who has moved a Centos 5 install on an IDE disk
to system with a Foxconn M'board. His idea is to use the SATA interface
that's on the Foxconn.
The thing boots OK and then gets into a loop trying to start the
interfaces to the SATA disks. Oceans of stuff like this in /var/log/messages

USB blues
I have a freshly built, updated EL6 system and am having problems with
USB stability - at boot everything works fine but within a few hours,
USB devices start disappearing randomly. At first I though the USB
devices were suspect, but removing the suspect devices and an accessory
PCIE USB card hasn't changed anything. As of now, a single USB device is
working. (which is lucky, it hosts the

Recommended PCIe SATA/SAS Controller?
Greetings all-
I need to purchase a PCIe SATA or SAS controller(non-raid) for a Supermicro 2U system. It should be directly bootable. Any recommendations? The system will be running CentOS 5.4 as an LTSP system. Thanks!

Network problems on new CentOS 5 install on P35, ICH9R mobo
Had to replace dying cpu and mobo, so also replaced IDE with new SATA
drive. Installed from latest ISO onto SATA and can't get networking to
lease an IP address from my ISP (Comcast). The network utility always
comes up with a private address (192.168.0.2) instead of Comcast IP.
To add to confusion, if I boot into old IDE drive, I get proper network
connection to internet, but lose my

Help with a good recovery plan.. Linux rescue?
Hello All,
I have a machine that crashed. Some part of the motherboard (power
supply-related) went south.
The motherboard, CPU and memory have been replaced with a much newer
architecture. The OS and data are intact on two SATA drives that were
RAID1 with LVM.
I am going to use 'linux rescue' to recover the LVM backup so I can
mount the RAIDs (there were two) in a new CentOS

Intel 965 Chipset on 4.4 ?
I have a nice new 965 chipset mobo with core 2 duo cpu. I was wondering
if anyone has any experiences with this chipset and CPU with 4.4 ?
Does the jmicron sata/pata interface work ?
Are both cores recongnized with the right kernel ?
Does EIST work ?
Or should I wait for Centos 5 ?
Cheers,
Brian.

Intel ICH10R on CentOS 5.4
Hey there..
I was wondering if anyone could share experiences they have had
with the Intel ICH10R SATA controller? I tried looking around
but all I could find were RAID references, I have no interest
in using the RAID functionality just basic SATA JBOD. Wondering
if there are any gotchas for performance, drivers, quality etc.
I normally don't touch anything that is not hardware RAID though

AHCI at boot?
I'm having trouble getting a Centos installation to boot on a system
with hdd's hanging off an AHCI hba.
Long ago, I posted about only seeing four of the six sata ports on my
asus server board. According to research I've done since then (I now
need the ports!), the solution is to enable the AHCI bios, which turns
on NCQ and the last two ports.
The already installed system does not

SMART
On Solaris x86, does zpool (or anything) support PATA (or SATA) IDE
SMART data? With the Predictive Self Healing feature, I assumed that
Solaris would have at least some SMART support, but what I''ve googled so
far has been discouraging.

RE: Xen-3.2.1 VT-d Support (NOT SURE WHETHER IT''S A BUG OR...)
Hello,
I''m also seeing this exact same problem. I''ve posted on xen-users, but did
not get an answer. Venkat seems to be experiencing the same problem as me. I
have the latest BIOS for my motherboard DQ35JO. (BIOS ver 933) I''m running a

compiling rpms
Hi!
i compiled rpms like postfix with mysql support. My problem is when i
compile programs i can't distinguish the difference between postfix
w/o mysql and postfix w/ mysql because they have the same
filename(postfix-2.x.x.i386.rpm), what i like to happen is when i
compile postfix w/ mysql support it will show something like
postfix-mysql-2.x.x.i386.rpm. so when i install and try to query it,

Panics and freeze using age0
I'm running FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE over Asus P5Q motherboard.
Such board comes with an nic requiring age0 driver.
When the nic is under load, such trasferring big amount of data
over gigabit connection (let's say some gigabyte backups),
the computer hangs, sometimes with panic, sometimes freezing.
Before that i was using an Intel nic with em0 driver
and 7.0-Stable#2.. and that

CentOS with Kernel 2.6.32 built-in
I have a Asus laptop, from the new generation, and my network driver is
present in the kernel since version 2.6.32(Jmicron). Is there any CentOS
with this kernel? I tried to compile myself, but I failed. Is a bit harder
than I thought.
Is there any testing version of CentOS or some backports?
Thanks

Problem detecting Sil3124 SATA controllers off of Sandy Bridge northbridge-connected PCIe slots
Hi,
We're having some trouble with detection of a couple of Sil3124 SATA
controller cards on newer motherboard and processor combos.
Specifically, we're running a Supermicro X9SCM-F motherboard (latest
BIOS) and Intel E3-1220v2 CPU.
What we're seeing:
- Syba Sil3124 PCIe cards are only being detected when installed in PCIe
