markdown implementation in C using PEG grammar
I've just uploaded an implementation of markdown in C. It defines the syntax using a PEG grammar, so it should be easy to extend and modify. Right now it can produce output in either HTML or LaTeX, but it would be simple to add other output formats. It's very fast: on my machine, it converts a 178K markdown file in 0.14 seconds (vs. 9.6 seconds for the latest Markdown.pl and 0.57 seconds

lunamark - markdown in lua using a PEG grammar
Markersdown: I was fooling around with lua and decided to write a markdown parser using the terrific lpeg library. Here's the result: http://github.com/jgm/lunamark/tree/master There are already two markdown libraries for lua, one a native lua implementation based on global substitutions, the other a binding to discount. What makes lunamark different is that it is based on a PEG grammar

peg-markdown (C) and rpeg-markdown (ruby gem)
Markdowners: I've released version 0.4.1 of peg-markdown, a C implementation of markdown. peg-markdown uses Ian Piumarta's peg/leg parser generator to generate a parser from a parsing expression grammar (PEG). You can inspect the grammar for markdown at http://github.com/jgm/peg-markdown/tree/HEAD/markdown_parser.leg peg-markdown now provides both a C library and a standalone

Treetop or like grammar for Markdown (in Ruby)
Has anyone seen any attempts to give Markdown a PEG (parsing expressions grammar) recognizable by some ruby PEG parser generator grammar like Treetop? http://treetop.rubyforge.org/

MultiMarkdown and MathML - new feature and request for help
A lot of people have expressed interest in combining math features with Markdown, but I am not aware of any real developments from these requests. I was looking around and toying with [ASCIIMathPHP](http:// www.jcphysics.com/ASCIIMath/) and integrated it with MultiMarkdown and my xhtml2latex XSLT transforms. You can include math as an inline formula by using a markup similar to inline

PHP Markdown Extra fork for MathJax
My fork of Michel Fortin's PHP Markdown Extra has been updated to include support for MathJax as well as jsMath. Both of these are JavaScript libraries for using LaTeX syntax, e.g., \(E = mc^2\), to include high quality, scalable equations (not just bitmapped images of equations) in your HTML pages. Links to more information: * A [description of PHP Markdown Extra Math][1], along with some

NEWS.md support on CRAN
John MacFarlane, the author of Pandoc, has been working on a project ( http://commonmark.org/) to define a standard reference for Markdown*. There are already two reference implementations, one in javascript, the other in C: https://github.com/jgm/cmark Regards, baptiste * There was some initial controversy with the original author of markdown, but in the long term it's probably one of the

Importing Markdown posts to WordPress
I apologize for being off-topic, but I think there's more expertise on this list than I'll find elsewhere. I'm thinking about moving my blog from Movable Type 3.2 to WordPress. As a test, I've set up a local WP installation and imported my old posts--all of which are written in Markdown. They look awful, primarily because the blocks of source code in many of my posts are not being

inline link syntax question
I don't believe this question has been discussed before on this list: Should whitespace be allowed between the bracketed and parenthesized parts of an inline link? For example, [foo] (/url) The markdown syntax documentation says explicitly that a space is allowed between the two parts of a *reference-style* link: > Reference-style links use a second set of square brackets, inside

lunamark 0.2
I'm pleased to announce the release of lunamark 0.2. This is a complete rewrite of the 2009 version, with a new API. I am very grateful to Hans Hagen, who resurrected the project for use in ConTeXt and made major improvements in the efficiency and performance of the code. Lunamark is a lua library and command-line program for conversion of markdown to other textual formats. Currently HTML,

help system does not work (PR#499)
Full_Name: James MacKinnon Version: Version 1.0.0 OS: Debian 2.1 Submission from: (NULL) (24.141.113.138) I am a novice at R, so I am not totally sure that this is a bug, but I think it must be. When I type help.start() or ?help, Netscape starts up, as it should, but it displays my normal home page, not any help for R. The relevant documents exist in /usr/lib/R/doc/html, but Netscape does not

[LLVMdev] PEG parsers? (was Re: Regular Expressions)
Hello everybody, I don't quite understand how the proposed regex library works but I know that PEG parser generators use a super-set of regex functionality to define their parsers. There's also a nice one on Google code called YARDparser that uses templates based on PEGs to generate efficient recursive-decent parsers. Furthermore, my partner and I am working on an interpreter for PEG

Announcement: Markdown-0.2 for PmWiki
Announcing a new release of the PmWiki Markdown extension.[1] This release introduces an improvement in page rendering, examples of syntax,[2] and better support for Atx (up from none). I have also established a page to help keep interested parties informed of changes, to include a discussion group.[3] There are still problems with loose lists and blockquotes, but this is a 0.2 release. The syntax

PDF output
Markdown speaks to a project I've engaged for nearly a decade. Ever since I cobbled up an Apple Newton keyboard to connect to my Pilot 5000, I wanted to type plain text with formatting for later printing. Class notes and such. Once I wrote a complex WordPerfect script using custom markup. For a while I wrote raw TeX, relying on a macro file to simplify things only a little. Upon

a story of compromise and an idea
There is a cluster of machines which I have an account on which was recently compromised. the machines have thousands of users and the only access is via ssh. via some mechanism (probably a weak password) the attacker was able to compromise a single account and use a local-root exploit to hijack lots of ssh-agents and any unpassword protected keys. they next tried to repeat the process for every

PEG Markdown Highlight
Dear fellow Markdown enthusiasts, As you all might know, Markdown is a highly context sensitive language that the (often regex-based) syntax highlighting mechanisms in existing editors struggle to keep up with. I have taken John MacFarlane's excellent peg-markdown compiler and modified its parser to function as an interpreter for syntax highlighting purposes. The end result is a
