Garbled screen after RAM Scrub on boot
Dear All I am using Centos 7 with Xen 4.6 on a Dell Poweredge T430 When the machine boots, after the 'Scrubbing Free RAM' message, I get a screen filled with little white squares until the login prompt, so I cannot see what is happening as the machine boots. Also there is nothing on the screen when I reboot. My /etc/default/grub is GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="$(sed 's, release

Help With Installation to USB Stick
Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there

IPtraf not looking right on the console..
I have a CentOS 4 server at home where we store all our data, I wanted to get some idea of the amount of traffic going into and out of the server by protocol so I installed IPtraf.. When I run it from an ssh session it looks fine but when I run it directly on the server console its doesn't look right at all.. It doesn't seem to layout correctly.. Is there something I need to do

Changing Console Display Settings
Hmm.. after all these years I actually have a monitor on my desk beside me going through a couple of KVMs to our racks. So, I hope to make more use of direct console connections instead of shelling in. But, now.... the text has always been huge and the interface clunky. And after a bit of googling around, and file searching on the system, I can't seem to find where or if there is a way to

I don't know if I really like this background though it is kind of neat. Where do I find the app to change this?

More CentOS5 nVidia fun
In the vein of the "Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024" and "Another CentOS 5 oddity..." threads, I just installed CentOS5 w/Xen kernel on a Sony VAIO desktop with an nVidia NV5M64 (RIVA TNT2 64 Pro) card, using an old Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor. system-config-display chose the highest possible resolution for the monitor and Xorg did its best to drive it, but

Boot process slow with rhgb quiet on
If I boot with "rhgb quiet" off, my computer boots in 1 minute and 30 seconds. If I boot with "rhgb quiet" on, my computer boots in 3m11s. That's a long time to wait. Significantly, when booting with "rhgb quiet", right at the moment X takes over, there is a 1m36s pause where the screen is blank except for the hourglass cursor turning around and around. Of

FLAC: editing software
I just tried this with Goldwave.. it decoded the file, i edited out some stuff, and saved the file (flac format) and the tags appear to be intact. system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor
I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor. That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver wasn't available for it, I

grub problems
This is irritating: I've got a server I just upgraded to 5.4, then rebooted, only to discover that it just *sits* there at the grub boot menu. I looked at grub.conf, and uncommented hiddenmenu (which should have been done long ago). It *still* sits there when I reboot. Any clues, folks? mark grub.conf: #boot=/dev/sda default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

C8.1 Grub problem
Hi list, I reinstalled on my workstation CentOS 8.1. I explain: I'm a KDE user but packages shipped from EPEL currently are buggy so I prefer a stable and functioning system to work with. So I tried to remove KDE workgroup and installed group "Workstation" but the system bricked so I reinstalled with GNOME. I've an nvidia gtx 1050ti GPU so I installed kmod-driver from
