[LLVMdev] Interactions with threads and native code
I have just begun investigating LLVM because it seems like it might be an ideal tool for building tools for playing with software. However, my current project is related to parallel programming on shared memory multiprocessor systems, so I need thread support. Currently, Structure layout is left to targets, which implement them according to the ABI of that platform. While this is fine for most structures, it makes packed structures very ugly. All fields in a packed type must be converted to byte arrays with casts to access fields, which bloats accesses and obsfucates the types. First class support for packed types would clean up the generated code

Hi, I want to implement a new intrinsic in llvm that will denote a parallel section within a function. I followed the documentation for extending llvm (http://llvm.org/docs/ExtendingLLVM.html) but there is something about the working mechanism that is not clear for me. 1. Yeah. We need to have more extra fields in the instruction. Fo example, during high-level synthesis, we must schedule an instruction to a certain control step (or cycle), and bind it to be execute on a certain functional unit, etc. Besides the in-memory exchange of the information, we also want on-disk exchange. If you're talking about the llvm-gcc and llvm-g++ compilers (C/C++ to LLVM) then they are in the downloadable tarballs available here: http://llvm.cs.uiuc.edu/releases/. You
