Official Announce List Notification
As you will know from recent posts, CentOS is separating from cAos to
become an independent project. As part of that change we are
implementing new mailing lists.
The new Announce List is now active. All Errata, release announcements
and the like will only be posted to the announce list. Once a day, a
digest of the Announce List will be posted to the main CentOS list.

Icecast 2.1 RC2 Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the long awaited 2.1 version of icecast is
nearing release. Since there has been quite a bit of changes since 2.0, we
thought it best to release a "release candidate" version. We welcome any
testing on this version, and highly encourage current users to send us
feedback about the testing.
For those wondering what happened to RC1, we did a small RC1

List Rules
Does anyone know if their are rules that this list is supposed to be
following? It doesn't appear to be moderated, so I realize that such
rules would be self-enforced, but it still might be good to agree on
some. Likewise, we could agree on none. That works also. Any
thoughts?
Some suggestions:
1) Be polite at all times. Imagine your grandmother reads this list.
2) If you can't be

tinc-announce mailing list
Hello Everybody,
I like tinc very much and as it is a piece of security software, I would
like to monitor new version announcements to stay updated.
The tinc@ mailing list is good, but there is a lot of random talk mixed
with the announcements.
Of course I could just make a filter in my e-mail client to highlight
the " [Announcement]" tag in the beginning of the subject, but it

Startup speed for a lengthy script
Colleagues,
Several days ago, I wrote to the list about a lengthy delay in startup
of a a script. I will start with a brief summary of that email. I
have a 10,000 line script of which the final 3000 lines constitute a
function. The script contains time-markers (cat(date()) to that I can
determine how fast it was read. When I invoke the script from the OS

Package update announcements
Hi Folks,
I was wondering what everyone thought about adding a sentence to each
package update announcement that described what the package did. R
extensions are so numerous that it is difficult to keep up with them.
Would it be appropriate to ask package developers to add a brief
sentence about what the package does, when they announce updates?
I would benefit from such descriptions.

Topics in the CentOS-Announce list
I have been working with Joe Pruett (thanks Joe), to get the Topics
feature for the mail list working.
I think we now have the topics working fairly well.
So if you only care about CentOS-3 i386 announcements (for example), you
can pick that specific topic.
There is also an option to pick the topics you care about, and all items
that do not match any topics. (So that if we make an announcement

Isn't r-announce supposed to be moderated? I posted to r-announce about a
minor update in randomForest and was rejected. I was told that it's meant
for new or significant upgrades in packages, etc.
