CentOS4 on Dell Inspiron 9300
I just purchased a Dell Inpiron 9300 from the Dell Outlet store. Installing CentOS4 went very, very smoothly until I tried configuring X. The 17" screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1920x1200 resolution. The best I could manage using system-config-display was 1600x1200. So, after a bit of research, I hand editted the xorg.conf file (reproduced below) and it now works great. Maybe

Centos 5.7, I10 video, 1920x1080 monitor
I have a Centos 5.7 machine with Intel I10 video (built-in, I guess -- this is one of those all-in-one mini terminal things) that I'm trying to put a new 1920x1080 monitor onto, without conspicuous success. Prior to this it's been using a smaller monitor with no issues. Try as I might I can't get the new monitor to run at its 1920x1080 resolution. I just realized that I forgot to

Widescreen monitor won't configure to a wide screen
I just put a 1680x1050 LCD monitor on my home system, and I went into system-config-display to configure it as such, and it just won't take. I had to tweak some of the settings by hand, but when I log out, I get the wide screen for both the Nvidia driver splash screen and the login screen. But, when I log in, It jumps back to 1280x1024 and refuses to run in wide screen mode. Here's the

Panzer General 2 - Railroad Tycoon 2
My apologies for being a total Wine NOOB. I've been trying to get anything to work on Wine (with little success). Panzer General II is supposed to be rated as Gold. I can get it to load fine. It starts, and I can even get to the start of a scenario/campaign. The main problem is it doesn't load the maps or anything into the map area. I ran winedbg and got this:

Conflict between mouse and tablet
I've been working hard to get my Wacom tablet to work as my primary pointing device. I've installed the drivers and followed the instructions at the Linux Wacom project at Sourceforge. And I've been largely successful. The drivers are working, the configuration utilities are working. I'm just one step away from success. Apparently the problem is that my mouse and my USB tablet

/etc/X11/xorg.conf question
If I use "system-config-display" or "system-config-display --reconfig" although I get a message that I need to log out of GNOME, to have the new file written, for new Display Resolution, logging out or restarting the box does not result in the new settings for the Display taking hold. Sometimes, the number of colors is updated, but *never* the Resolution. Below is my xorg.conf

Strange behavior in X, esp. VMWare Windows
Last Thursday, for some reason (possibly a power failure), my work desktop had a different video configuration than when I left Wednesday evening. I have two 17" flat panels configured as a two-head wide (side-by-side) single display. When I arrived on Thu, I had two individual desktops instead, the resolution was down to 800x600, and so on. The monitor type had been reset to generic

CentOS 5 dual head doesn't work
I just bit the bullet and installed CentOS 5 on my work desktop, and although I have two monitors and a card that supports them, I cannot get the display configuration to work with both as a continuous (spanning) desktop. I have tried using the correct (autodetected) monitor type (digital and analog), a generic LCD with 1280x1024, nothing works. Every time I set the configuration, the X server

Back to my Xwindows kernel panic
I have a newly built drive with 5.2 fresh install (that I will be cloning shortly) in my DECtop and it is failing with X the same way the upgrade from 5.1 drive did (not too supprising there). In 5.1 X worked. I could startx from init 3 and get into GNOME. Also VNC into the box and have a GNOME screen. With 5.2, I get a kernel panic. Well I guess it is a kernel panic because once I run

Mouse cursor rotated on all screens when rotating a single screen.
I have two monitors, one landscape and the other portrait. When I rotate the portrait monitor using xrandr (or the xorg.conf option) the mouse cursor on the landscape monitor is also rotated and the "click point" is no longer below the cursor (this makes the mouse practically unusable). The cursor is correct on the rotated monitor. Setting NoAccel "False" and HWCursor

Minimizing WoW - Painfully low FPS
I can play WoW perfectly, it is 100% stable and I can get great fps. One problem though, when I minimize the game and I maximize it, sometimes I can just keep playing happily but sometimes thats not the case. I minimize it, maximize it again and the FPS drops to about 10-20fps (anywhere). As you might know, this is VERY annoying, I've tried changing loads of settings in-game with no help.
