normal mixture EM not working?
Hi, I am currently working on fitting a mixture density to financial data. I have the following data: http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=00083355432555420222 I want to fit a mixture density of two normal distributions. I have the formula: f(l)=πϕ(l;μ1,σ21)+(1−π)ϕ(l;μ2,σ22) my R code is: normalmix<-normalmixEM(dat,k=2,fast=TRUE) pi<-normalmix$lambda[1] mu1<-normalmix$mu[1]

CentOS 7 Anaconda GUI resolution
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings! I tried installing CentOS v7 (1406) to an old spare machine, and the video card apparently don't play well with X. It is incorrectly saying that either monitor I connect is only able to support 640x480, when one is 1024x768 and the other supports a higher (but now forgotten) resolution. In no way do I expect a fix to be added just to

Standard error of normalmixEM fit?
I fitted a mixture denstiy of two gaussians two my data. I now want to calculated the standard errors of the estimates via the boot.se command of the mixtools package. My question is now, if the output is correct? It seems a bit odd to me, so is this correct what I am doing and can I rely on the values? My data: http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=09285782882980618119 My code:

Std. error normalmixEM using boot.se
I tried to post this question two times, each time it seemed to fail, since " An embedded and charset-unspecified text was scrubbed..." faulty formatting of toLatex(sessionInfo())
Dear all I am writing an Sweave document and have encountered formatting issues with the "locale" part of toLatex(sessionInfo()). The fact that there is no spaces between the various "locale" variables means that LaTeX cannot easily find an appropriate place to break the lines, and some will get printed off screen. Below is the text output, and this .pdf document [1] shows the

Q: Bandwidth vs. bitrate
Hi! So here is what I got with different encoder settings; still not sure what the "best" setting is. 6kbps seems to add distortions, so I tried 12kbps. MP3-Original: LAME 3.99r, 120kbps, 44100Hz, Stereo, VBR V5 (22:23, 19.8MB) Opus (--raw-rate 44100 --bitrate 56 --vbr --comp 5): (44:45?, 23.4MB): Broken Opus (--bitrate 56 --vbr --comp 5 --ignorelength - %d): (22:23, 12.1 MB, 74kbps)

Literature analysis
Dear all, i am new in R. I am writing a review paper about batteries. However, i am interested in analyzing all the papers by keywords, author, references and year. This could be done by "refviz" a software, which is only running on windows machines and which is not free. So my question to you is, is it somehow possible to write a script that can do all of this work? And if yes, with

First Version of OpusDrop
Hello everybody, I just want to inform you, that the first alpha-version of a GUI for the opustools for Windows is online available [1]. Critics and comments are welcome - maybe someone know how to transfer that project to an open source site. with greetings, Daniel Thomae [1] http://foveon.de/sonstiges/opusdrop/index.htm

[LLVMdev] Help with hazards
The scoreboard hazard detector that I've added for the PPC 440 is not detecting hazards as it should (which certainly could be my fault somehow, but...). For example, it will produce a schedule that looks like... SU(28): 0x127969b0: f64,ch = LFD 0x12793aa0, 0x1277b4f0, 0x127965b0<Mem:LD8[%scevgep100](tbaa=!"double")> [ORD=41] [ID=28] SU(46): 0x12796ab0: f64 = FADD 0x127969b0,

Container-less use of speex codec??
Hi! >From what I learned is that the popular AVM "Fritz!Box" (www.avm.de) uses container-less speex for saving voice data (like from the answering machine). I have no idea why they decided to do so, but it's a matter of fact. The format is still the same in the current firmware. There are hacks out that allow the tools to process files without the Ogg header, and I wonder how

switch between speech and music encoding rather quickly. I wanted to try that for a CD track that has a vocal (talk) introduction = followed by music (just two instruments). Using foobar2000 with some custom setup for Opus, I tried VBR encoding = with a 256kbps setting (opus-tools-0.1.9-win32). My expectation was that = the bitrate would be significantly lower than 256kbps while speech is =

Request for Comments: multi-channel/32 bit WAV patch for oggenc
List, Some time ago, Jose A. Peirote (Tebasuna in the HA community) started a thread[1] in the HA forums to improve oggenc. He has since posted a patch[2] in Trac. I have tested it and it appears to work, though I have to confess not knowing much of multi-channel encoding (I only work with stereo). The other issues it supposedly fix seem to work, too, though I did not experiment with 4+ GB

Dovecot 1.0.14 + osx 10.6 and authentication PAM
Howdy, Today I installed the new version of Apple OSX 10.6. Besides that it deleted the dovecot user, things went quite smooth. As far as I can tell it is running as it used to. However, I can't login to my account. It used to work fine with PAM taking the username and password from my osx installation. Now it doesn't allow me to login anymore. I have read on a website that apple

vorbis-tools 1.3.0 BETA - Help testing.
Dear vorbis-dev lurkers, I bring you the first beta release of vorbis-tools 1.3.0. It has quite a few new features and the final version will have even more, so I am sure it is to everyone's benefit that it gets as much tested as possible so we can do a quick release. Here's the changelog so far: * Fixed an error in configure.ac; --with-speex/flac work again (#1319) * Corrected
