Icecast and Streamed Audio Formats
So that means files with metadata in them don't get that metadata streamed? Too bad that. This had potential. I think what he tried to say is: It may or may not work. There is no official support. If it works for you: fine. If it doesn't or break: no official support ('also fine'). regarding meta data:

Yes, Philipp, it does help. Thanks for the clarification. I'll try it and see what happens. New Icecast Alternative: Rocket Streaming Audio Server
Hi all, Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I've been using Icecast since 2006, but in recent years, I've kept running into all sorts of issues and found many others who are in the same boat. I've done some small experimental hacks to Icecast just for fun, but I've never contributed code because: 1) I've been alienated by the Icecast team's hostility towards MP3 and

And the winner is... (C't audio-codec test)
Salve, the German IT-Magazin (#1) www.heise.de/ct has made an audio-codec test online. The reader were asked to download 2 x 7 audiofiles, listen to them and rank them (As I wrote before) http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200208/0185.html The 7 files have been Wave, MP3, MP3Pro, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, RealAudio in 64kBit/s and 128kBit/s for a stereo sample of 3 genres: pop, jazz, classic. Speex encoding/decoding producing garbled audio
Whoops, left this message in my outbox. I managed to fix the problem. Apparently I was only copying 160 bytes (Frame Size) back into the audio stream when I should have been copying 320 (chars <-> shorts confused me there). Hence why I could hear myself yet it was distorted. Half the wav was missing =) To answer some of the other questions here, for any insight into what I'm doing:

Speex encoding/decoding producing garbled audio
I'm getting garbled playback with decoded fragments and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to correcting the problem. Essentially I'm capturing audio from the microphone. I stream it over the net, but for testing purposes with this API I'm just grabbing the whole chunk and encoding / decoding it right away and then updating the sound buffer for

Icecast and Streamed Audio Formats
I just happened on a comparison page with a table listing the differences between Icecast and Shoutcast (Icecast wins, of course), and found a line that intrigued me. The line in the table listed AAC as one of the codecs in which Icecast can stream. If this is correct, what do I need to add to my Linux-based Icecast server and configuration to make this happen?

Dolby Begins Licensing AAC Consumer Encoder Implementation
Well, in the world of audio compression it's never boring... :-) Full press release from Dolby: http://www.aac-audio.com/press/aac.pr.0104.AACencoder.html My comments: Looks like Dolby will start licensing AAC encoder that targets consumers and the products they use like CD rippers, jukebox players, etc. Also, it looks like that this encoder will be Low Complexity AAC ("The AAC Consumer

Vorbis-/Speex-Audio for Movie-Archiving
Hi everyone, I have been using vorbis for ages as audio codec for archiving movies and I have always been happy with it, but now I have been thinking about two things: I) Multi-channel Up until now I mostly encoded to stereo; now I am thinking of encoding more movies to 4.0 or 5.1. I heard that vorbis does not optimize for channels > 2, i.e. that 6 channels is just stereo*3. AAC is

Denon AVR-5308CI with FLAC decoding!
I just read on Gizmodo that the new Denon AVR-5308CI will include FLAC decoding! According to the text, it supports "USB inputs for bus-powered HDD, along with AAC, FLAC, WMA Lossless, MP3 and WAV decoding" Very happy to see FLAC being supported by a big name like Denon! Josh (or anyone else), curious if you know to what extent the support is offered or if you have any further

re-encoding questions
A couple pf questions regarding reencoding... I've got ogg, mp3, and aac files to stream. a) What are the restrictions in the current version of ices (0.4?), is it that channels and samplerate must be equal in all files? b) will they be reencoded to ogg or to mp3, or is there a choice? Thanks. -- Guy
