Samba performance issues
Hi all
We are implementing samba-ldap to act as an nt pdc and are seeing
performance problems.
We have a 1ghz, 3gb Ram, 36gb box that is running samba-2.2.5 and
openldap-2.0.23 under redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3.
Clients are all Win2k SP3.
All the ldap requests are to the localhost interface.
The box is acting as the PDC for the domain, and also sharing diskspace
and printers.

Vista performance (uggh)
Issue: Vista reads slowly from a samba server. This appears to pop up
periodically here and elsewhere.
My samba.conf file has:
[homes]

vfs objects = readahead
As suggested elsewhere.
Writes are approximately 17-18MB/s which is acceptable. Reads are in
the 8MB/s range which is appalingly slow. Using linux smbclient and
windows XP clients I can read at 25+MB/s. I've enabled vfs

bwlimit on rsync locally
Does "bwlimit" option really work on rsync locally? We have one type
of harddisk and want to slow down rsync I/O on disk because I don't
want the disk head gets too hot. While I'm trying to use --bwlimit
option, it looks the rsync speed was slowed down, but iostat is not
improved at all. In both case the block written speed is increased by
the same amount.
How could I really

ocfs2 - problem with performance
Hi all.
I have problem with performance ocfs2. I just instaled ocfs2 1.4.1 in 2 nodes cluster. I use ocfs2 in mail server. This system has large amount of small files about 50kB.
Ocfs2 is formated:

mkfs.ocfs2 1.4.1
Cluster stack: classic o2cb

Re: ocfs performance question
Well, you are the second person who has complained about
the performance of OCFS with the PERC controller.
Best option would be to contact DELL. We are in contact with
them... as in, they inform us of any issues they have with linux/ocfs
on their hardware. As we do not have this particular hardware inhouse,
all we can only speculate as to what the issue is.

Question about iostat output
Hello,
We are planning to moving most of our servers to ESX but before buying
our SAN, we want to do some I/O stats to see if iSCSI is enough or if
we have to go with FC. So I found a plugin for Nagios that can log I/O
stats with iostat. So far it's fine with single disk/one partition
servers, but on our Oracle Database 10g server, we have two drives in
RAID 1 (/dev/sda) and 4 other

Transition to CentOS - RAID HELP!
Hi Folks,
I've inherited an old RH7 system that I'd like to upgrade to
CentOS6.1 by means of wiping it clean and doing a fresh install.
However, the system has a software raid setup that I wish to keep
untouched as it has data on that I must keep. Or at the very least, TRY
to keep. If all else fails, then so be it and I'll just recreate the
thing. I do plan on backing up

The simple menu system doesn't work with serial console
Hello,
I have just get started using pxelinux, and encountered a problem.
The document says the simple menu system supports serial console,
and it works on syslinux 0.2x, but it doesn't seem to work in 0.3x and 0.4x.
I confirmed that this patch fixed the bug.

Making failing view specs easier to troubleshoot
I just had a problem that had me stumped for an hour. All of a sudden
all of my view specs were failing, and I couldn''t get good
troubleshooting information from the rspec output. The output from
running `rake specs` was a bunch of HTML from
app/views/exceptions/internal_server_error.html.erb, but there wasn''t
enough info there to diagnose my problem. It just said

Help Troubleshoot SID problem?
Hi all,
Can anyone suggest some methods and tools to help troubleshoot a
problem with SID's? I am using Samba 3.0.2a on RH9 joined to a W2K ADS
"security = ads". I am trying to set NT ACL permissions on my shares,
but after they are set and the Everyone group is removed, the users
cannot connect to the share. With logging turned up, I can see access
checks, but the user sid does not

SIP DTMF Troubleshoot
How can I debug SIP DTMF? If I do 'sip set debug peer xyz' I see no
messages related to DTMF... or if I just do a global SIP debug for
that matter.... I am using RFC DTMF but it's not being passed to the
PSTN and I need to debug this further. I've tried to increase the
verbosity and the debug ('set debug n') and that didn't help either. I
assume this is because even

Troubleshoot printing to NT Server
Hi,
I'm trying to print to a printer that is connected to an NT 4 Server.
The problem is, that nothing comes out of the printer, and I get no
error messages, neither on the Linux nor the NT box. The printer queue
on NT is empty.
Where can I look in order to find out what the problem is?

How to troubleshoot spotlight = yes feature?
Hi!
I am on Ubuntu 20.04 with the vendor provided Samba 4.15.13 packages. My
smb.conf is at the end of the email.
I have Gnome Tracker set up and working (from the command prompt on the
server, tracker search keyword, is working) as per
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Spotlight_with_Gnome_Tracker_Backend
However, from the macOS workstation side, Spotlight still does not appear

increase log verbosity to troubleshoot spotlight issues?
Hi,
I was wondering if there was a logging category for which I can increase
the verbosity for spotlight?
I am trying to set up Samba 4 with Gnome Tracker as the backend, and I
followed the Samba wiki (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Spotlight_with_Gnome_Tracker_Backend ).
The tracker backend is working, but spotlight itself still isn't working on
workstations (trying to search on a shared
