GSOC-2016 Project : Clustering of search results
Hello devs, I am Richhiey Thomas, pursuing my third year of undergraduate studies in Computer Science from Mumbai University. I had gone through the project list for this year and the project idea based on clustering caught my attention. I spoke to Assem Chelli on IRC who guided me to the code and got me started. I started going through the code and have successfully built Xapian on my machine.

Xapian 1.3.3 development snapshot released
I'm happy to be able to announce that Xapian 1.3.3 is now available. Please note that 1.3.x releases are development releases - they are made to encourage earlier and wider use and testing of new and changed code. Our record with 1.1.x was very good - all the bugs I am aware of were either in new features, or were also present in the corresponding 1.0.x release. But if you main concern is

File descriptor leak (?) in Python
Hi all, Recently I have upgraded a Python application from Xapian 1.0.7 to 1.2.2 in order to use the PostingSource class. It is a long-running process, and I am seeing the number of open file descriptors to the Xapian database steadily increase. I suspect what I am seeing is some kind of resource leak. I have no idea if it is a problem in our code or in the Xapian Python bindings. How do I debug

udev no longer compiles (since 1.3.5)
As the title suggests, udev no longer compiles under klibc versions > 1.3.5 It may partially be udev's fault, however, certain symbols, such as SOCK_DGRAM, are no longer visible when compiling under klcc, which is causing this issue. A simple check of the linux/net.h header shows some ARCH_HAS_SOCKET_TYPES define, which is not set internally by udev's source. Where would be the most

FirefoxPortable and ThunderbirdPortable and Wine 1.3.5
Hi, I've a problem with FirefoxPortable and ThunderbirdPortable (a version of Firefox and Thunderbird from PortableApps). The were running fine until some weeks ago but, I guess after a system upgrade (I use arch linux) which included wine upgrade they don't start anymore. Anyone has experience of them working under wine 1.3.5 (the current versione of wine)? Or has an idea about the cause

Xapian 1.3.5 snapshot performance and index size
Hi, I ran some tests with Recoll to compare Xapian 1.2.22 and 1.3.5 performance. I mostly used two relatively small document sets (realistic/typical recoll data subsets). The first set is a 2.2 GB mbox folder, with approximately 56K messages in 275 files, producing approximately 64K documents (because of attachments). The second set is a 11 GB folder with 5300 PDF files in it (random PDFS

slowdown in notmuch perf suite with xapian 1.3.5
I hadn't noticed any interactive slowdown, but when I got around to running the notmuch performance suite, there seems to be some noticable slowdown with the glass backend (default in Xapian 1.3.5) compared to chert (using xapian 1.2.22) These tests are on an older i7 with 12G of RAM and an SSD. I'm reasonable confident they are CPU bound. One curious thing is the increase in system time

getSymbolAddressInProcess returning null
I've finally managed to extract from Kaleidoscope one particular thing that it seems to me should be working and isn't. Given the global declaration extern "C" void foo() {} within the same program I have RTDyldMemoryManager::getSymbolAddressInProcess("foo") And it's returning null. (LLVM 3.8, Windows 7 x64.) What am I missing? -------------- next part
