passing function parameters into a 'with' statement to dynamically pick out columns

I've built a function to generate plots and would like to be able pass in column names as a parameter. Here's a boiled down version of what I have right now:

Recursive decreasing sequences
Hello fellow R's,
I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this. But after digging in the
documentation and thinking about it for a while I couldn't figure it
out. I need to get a decreasing recursive vector in. I mean something
like this: if starting at 2, and ending at 6, the vector should be

rcom close Excel problem
Hello,
I just discovered that I cannot close the Excel application and task
manager shows numerous copies of Excel.exe
I tried both
x$Quit() # shown in the rcom archive
and
x$Exit()
and Excel refuses to die.

RCOM Package
Hi list,
I just installed the rcom package and tried to read/give out some values
from/to Excel. Altogether it works great... but nevertheless I don't know
how the syntax works or in other words: "Which command needs which
parameters?"
Is there somwhere a manual about this package with good examples? I've read
the Package description... but there are not really good

NSD compressing RP content

while investigating a report from Jan-Piet Mens (resulting in http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/3109), we discovered that NSD (both 3.2.15 and 4.0.0b4) compresses labels in RP content. As far as I can see, this is not allowed by RFC3597 section 4 paragraph 1/2.
PowerDNS Recursor, like Unbound and BIND, now deals with this as 3597 section 4 paragraph 4 says we SHOULD. Nevertheless,

Kernel crash with acpi_processor, cpu_idle and intel_idle =y
Hi everyone,
When I set CONFIG_ACPI_PROCESSOR, CONFIG_CPU_IDLE and CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE
to y then I cannot boot Xen; there is a crash. If I turn
CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE off then the boot goes well and, after dom0 has
booted, xenpm works and gives some sane output, see below. I have
tested this with kernels 3.2 to 3.4.6.
Is it impossible to use INTEL_IDLE with Xen? If this is a known issue
then maybe
