Xapian DatabaseError
Hi, I've a problem to integrate xapian in my web application. I've developed the code for index e for search the documents published through my application.
The app is developed in PHP. I've created a file that contain some function for search (called simpleSearch and advSearch).
The problem is that if i run the code through the IDE (Zend for Eclipse) as PHP script it work correctly,

New scws patch for xapian-core based on svn trunk
Hi, I have already re-make the patch file, based on the trunk codes in SVN respo.
But I can not build the xapian, because there are many errors when building 'languages/' for stemmer. Therefore, I could not test the new patching code.
Patching code can be accessed from:
http://www.xunsearch.com/download/xapian-scws-1.3.x-trunk.patch
Need to install SCWS first as below steps:

Matches estimate varies with sorting method
Hi all,
I found that the figure returned by MSet::get_matches_estimated() varies
depending on how results are to be sorted.
For instance, in my index, value 4 contains date and time in the format
"yyyymmddhhmmss". For the same query, the number of results will be
estimated to 20000+ when results are first sorted by date and time
with set_sort_by_value_then_relevance(4) and to only 100

SSOAP and Chemspider: Security token?
Dear community,
has anyone managed to get SSOAP working with the ChemSpider Web APIs, using functions which need the security token?
I use SSOAP 0.9-0 from the OmegaHat repository.
In the example code from SSOAP there is a sample which uses a token function. Interestingly, it checks if(!is.character(token)) first (and proceeds if the token is NOT character.) I can't test that function since I

hypens in words + NEAR + 3 terms + AND_MAYBE => crash
Probably an uncaught malformed query - the following form of search queries
causes a crash for me (core 1.2.3, Perl API, 64bit Debian Lenny, self-compiled):
x-y NEAR test NEAR test
The first term can be anything with a hyphen in it but word characters at the
beginning and end ("3--3" will do). The other 2 terms can be anything.
"test NEAR x-y NEAR test" will not cause a

xapian parser bug?
David — this isn't the behaviour I see what QueryParser alone, unless you're driving it in a way I don't expect. In python:
>>> import xapian
>>> qp = xapian.QueryParser()
>>> qp.add_prefix('subject', 'S')
>>> str(qp.parse_query('subject:"and"', qp.FLAG_DEFAULT|qp.FLAG_BOOLEAN_ANY_CASE))
'Query(Sand at 1)'

Welcome to the "Xapian-discuss" mailing list
Please keep replies on the mailing list — more people can help (and benefit) that way :)
So OP_NEAR looks for its terms close to each other (hence "near"). The window is how far away they can be. Probably the easiest way to play with this is using the NEAR syntax in the query parser. So if you had a plain text document:
I am walking, always walking.
And index it in a very simple

String.protoype.toQueryParams
Hi, I am trying to play with all the methods in the Array Object.
Just wanted to check with you guys if this is the correct explanation of toQueryParams().
If yes, then I''ll add it to the documentation as well.
Works for me (but I am not sure if it''s the correct way to use it).
/* String.prototype.toQueryParams takes a query string, i.e, string with

[PATCH] Extend Multiboot1 with support for ELF64 file format
This patch is just a (shameless) copy from bug #28 [1].
The original patch has been sitting there for a couple of years now,
and it was based on Syslinux v 4.05.
The patch I am posting here is just a re-base on v.6.03. Whichever
inadequate formatting (tabs, trailing spaces...), or any kind of
correction that was required for the original patch to be accepted, is
probably still required now.

Searching using prefixes
Hi guys
I'm trying to figure out how I can use probabilistic searching on a
given field within a document; I've written to the list about this
before, but haven't quite figured out what's required and, following a
little research, I think I understand what I need to do but I'd like a
clarification on this.

Active Search
Issue:
I am trying to get a good quality search capability across our site. I
ran across ActiveSearch
(http://julik.textdriven.com/svn/tools/rails_plugins/simple_search/)
which seems to be a better solution for us than SimpleSearch (and
SearchGenerator) as it is more than just word based. However, I am
unable to get the project built and being fairly new to Ruby / Rails I''m

submitting a xapian entry to the FreeBSD ports collection
Hello,
Would anyone object to my submitting an entry for xapian-core to the
FreeBSD ports collection ? This would make it even easier for any FreeBSD
user to install a xapian-based application.
By the way, it does not seem quite right that xapian-core 0.9 will install
commands with such generic names as 'copydatabase' or 'simplesearch' to
/usr/local/bin by default. Either a

playlist trouble
Hi all,
I'm running icecast and use ices to stream mp3's to the server. The user can
search a database with english audio files ( it's for schools, so nothing
fancy ) and then klick on a play-button ( Anhören ) to stream the selected
title . But no matter what file is selected I only get the first entry
in the playlist.
I use the builtin-playlist-handler.
You can test it
