Hi Olly I will try to work on : http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/GSoCProjectIdeas#Project:LearningtoRank I will be taking a Machine Learning class the next semester and I hope that this project will help me supplement my learning in Machine Learning and also gain a bit of knowledge in IR. If you can give me ideas on how to get around with the code for LTR project, it will be awesome. I can look at

Question regarding LETOR
Hi Parth, I have a few questions- 1. Could you please provide me with the link for query-file, qrel-file for the dataset available at http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/departments/d5/software/inex/ . 2. I wanted to know how automated testing would be implemented. Will there be test cases like a test query must match this particular N results and this particular ranking. Or will it be in terms of

Student looking to contribute toward Xapian
Hello everyone, I have recently completed my engineering in Computer Science. I came across Xapian while looking for GSoC organisations. I was browsing through the ideas page and it was written that you would be willing to mentor anyone interested in working on those projects. I am interested in this: http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/GSoCProjectIdeas#Project:LearningtoRank and this:

Help with xapian
Hi, Sorry for the long hiatus. I was caught with some other deadlines. Could some one tell me some specific expectations from Letor for GSOC 2015? I am currently trying out some learning algorithm implementations but need some help with it. Can Parth, James and others related to LETOR please tell me the IRC availability for the next few days. Learning to rank
Dear Sir, I am Pankaj Singhal from Jaipur, India. I am very much interested and strongly looking forward in getting involved in this project Learning-to-Rank. My previous experience in this field is good. Last semester I did a similar job of ranking the URLs of the given huge dataset based on their attribute values. The dataset consisted hundreds of thousands of URLs and each url

I'd suggest that a good thing to look at would be functional tests of the metrics and algorithms in Hanxiao Sun's work from this summer. You'll generally need to go either to the original paper, or find an alternative implementation, to build up a series of tests that demonstrate that the implementation is doing what it is supposed to. Xapian-core contains a test framework which it

Is the project learning to rank need to be improved?
HI, Parth: Thanks for your reply. There's xapian-letor folder in current master trunk, is this code merged in 2011? the letor code of 2012 is not merged to the trunk? why doesn't as.character of this factor create a vector ofcharacters?
This message didn't seem to have been somewhat forgotten. Here is a reply. When you constructed the data.frame, all strings were converted to factors. If you didn't want that, it would have been possible to specify it: df<-data.frame(a=a,b=b,c=c,stringsAsFactors=F) Then everything would work as intended: one.line<-as.character(df[df$a=="Abraham",]) Actually, the real

why doesn't as.character of this factor create a vector of characters?
I'm trying to figure out why when I use as.character() on one row of a data.frame, I get factor numbers instead of a character vector. Any suggestions? See the following code: a<-c("Abraham","Jonah","Moses") b<-c("Sarah","Hannah","Mary") c<-c("Billy","Joe","Bob")

FW: Observations
Hi Sunil, I'm looking into this thread now. Does this mean we cannot use FTP option to copy OCFS files to ext3? If so, is there any ftp version available for OCFS, similar to cp --o_direct? Also, is there any version of sync available for OCFS (in normal FS, sync does a refresh of FS from kernel cache so that the FS is consistent). By this can we say that the FS shard by both nodes is

i-node showing 100 % used whereas the partitionsare empty
Hi Sunil, I had filed a bug and saw your response stating that it would be fixed in version 14. In the meanwhile , what we want to know is whether this bug is a minor bug and can be ignored for now. Does reporting 100% inodes cause any problem for the OCFS file system or can we ignore this bug and go into production. Also can you tell us by when version 14 would be released. R'gds

Multiple lag.plots per page
Hi, I'm trying to plot several lag.plots on a page, however the second plot replaces the first one (although it only takes up the upper half as it should): par(mfrow=c(2,1)) a<-sin(1:100) b<-cos(1:100) lag.plot(a) lag.plot(b) What's the trick to this? I'm using R 2.2.1 (2005-12-20 r36812) on Ubuntu Linux. Thanks, Gad -- Gad Abraham Department of Mathematics and

Time series labeling with Zoo
Hi, I'm using zoo because it can automatically label the months of a time series composed of daily observations. This works well for certain time series lengths, but not for others, e.g.: While: > library(zoo) > plot(zoo(runif(10), as.Date("2005-06-01") + 0:50)) Shows up the months and day of month, > plot(zoo(runif(10), as.Date("2005-06-01") + 0:380))

ARIMA standard error
Hi, Can anyone explain how the standard error in arima() is calculated? Also, how can I extract it from the Arima object? I don't see it in there. > x <- rnorm(1000) > a <- arima(x, order = c(4, 0, 0)) > a Call: arima(x = x, order = c(4, 0, 0)) Coefficients: ar1 ar2 ar3 ar4 intercept -0.0451 0.0448 0.0139 -0.0688 0.0010 s.e.

survreg's algorithm
Hi, I'm using survreg() from the survival package for parametric survival regression (modelling inter-arrival times of patients to a waiting list as exponentially distributed, with various regressors such as queue size and season). Does anyone know which algorithm survreg() uses for this? Thanks, Gad -- Gad Abraham Department of Mathematics and Statistics The University of Melbourne

shaping
Hi! Is there any way to do just plain vanilla TBF (Token Buck Filter) type shaping on a group of ips/networks, not an entire interface. Currently the only way I know how to shape in Linux is to use HTB or CBQ, but both of these need a total rate and then you need to subdivide that into classes. That is not what I want. All I want is Cisco generic traffic shaping style shaping (or similar to how
