Hi All. Looking for some guidance/experience with LVM and pvmove. I have a LUN/PV being presented from a iscsi SAN. The LUN/PV is presented to 5 servers as a shared VG they all have LV's they use for data, they are all connected via iSCSI. As the SAN I am using is being replaced I need to move onto a new unit. My migration strategy at this time is to 1. Present a new LUN from the new SAN

I've been running into a reproducible problem when using default LVM volume group names to present block devices for virtual machines in KVM, and I'm wondering why it is happening. On dom0 I make a default VolGroup00 for the operating system. I make a second VolGroup01 for logical volumes that will be block devices for virtual systems. In VolGroup01, I make two lv's for one system:

I renamed my volume with vgrename however I didn't complete the other steps. Mainly update fstab and intiramfs. Once I booted, I was dropped on the Dracut shell. From here I can see the newly rename VG and I can lvm lvscan as well as activate it, lvm vgchange -ay. However I can't figure out what to do next, I'm assuming I need to regenerate the initramfs and then boot to change

I am mirroring two drives during install, what's the best practice here for the swap partition? Maybe two separate lv's from independent vg's *not* mirrored for swap and the let the OS manage it? Boot and the / vg will be mirrored. Thanks! jlc

I have lvm based (thin pool) storage on local disks. I need to move vps from one vg on one disk to another. Does it possible to migrate to localhost with blockcopy migration to another vg? Hi all I have a remote server (i.e SSH access only) which was incorrectly partitioned and I urgently need to get it up and running. It's got a 500GB HDD, but the PV is only 10GB big, so I can't add more LV's to to. P.S. This is on LVM, btw. Hello, as usual, I'm few years behind trends so I have learned about LVM thin volumes recently and I especially like that your volumes can be "sparse" - that you can have 1TB thin volume on 250GB VG/thin pool. I am performing some configuration testing on a kvm host. When installing a guest operating system is it advisable to place each instance in a separate lv or better to accept the default and store them on the root file system? Respecting lvm, does one configure lvs in a virtual server to take space from the main vg or does one allocate lv space from inside that allocated to the virtual instance?
