Connecting to existing guests / guestfsd
[Continuing the discussion from: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2011-01/msg02600.html Sent to libguestfs mailing list] What we are looking at is something like this: guestfish --rw -i LiveGuest [connected read-write to a live guest] ><fs> copy-in files /tmp This is not possible at the moment: it's causes disk corruption to write to disks attached to a live

Serial Communication
Many years ago, we began scrapping the RTOS approach for some of our timing-critical applications.? Our first applications were based on Solaris real-time extensions and served well us well for many years.? Then came the era of shaky support for Intel Solaris and we moved many applications to Linux.? There appeared to be no actual need for special real-time features with a good Linux distribution

[PATCH 0/8 v2 DISCUSSION ONLY] Connecting to live virtual machines
NOTE: This is HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL and can eat babies ... Modify the guest libvirt XML to add the virtio-serial channel: <channel type='unix'> <source mode='bind' path='/tmp/socket'/> <target type='virtio' name='org.libguestfs.channel.0'/> </channel> In the guest, compile guestfsd and run it like this: sudo

virt-customize is very slow in ubuntu 18.04/centos 7.5
Hi all, Sorry for bothering you in this dev mailing list, I'm using libguestfs to customize some vm using as bases the ubuntu cloud images. But I noticed that it takes a lot and then fails when trying to install a packet. Same behaviour on Ubuntu 18.04 and Centos 7.5 Ubuntu: virt-customize 1.36.13 libvirtd (libvirt) 4.0.0 Centos: virt-customize 1.36.10rhel=7,release=6.el7_5.2,libvirt

[PATCH v2 1/9] build: Remove ./configure --enable-valgrind-daemon.
If you've ever tried to use this option, you'll know that it didn't work well. It broke random things (probably RHBZ#1020216, definitely RHBZ#1023630), and caused random failures generally, while often not actually failing when valgrind itself found problems. This does not remove the guestfs_internal_exit API. That will instead be modified in a future commit. ---

Inspect_os() error
I posted this problem on IRC yesterday. Here are some logs. Recap on the problem: When I do inspect_os() (from the python api) or invoke virt-inspector, I get this error: libguestfs: error: internal_parse_mountable: internal_parse_mountable_stub: /dev/vg_nestedctos1/lv_root: No such file or directory I don't have this problem when I invoke it using the OS supplied binaries (version 1.14.8).

Writing policy for guestfsd in libguestfs live
Dan(s), I hope you can give us some advice on this. Background: guestfsd is a guest agent. Normally it runs inside a special appliance; that's *not* the case that I'm worried about. There's also another mode where you can run guestfsd inside a regular Fedora or RHEL guest, and it handles instructions from the host to perform filesystem operations. The mode is called 'libguestfs

The answer is too detailed for IRC] Consider this model of the libguestfs architecture[i]: (2) libguestfs (3) Linux (1) API protocol syscalls program <--------> libguestfs <--------> qemu <-------->

Another virt-p2v blew up
One day I'm going to run a virt-p2v that works to completion. But evidently not today. The source physical machine is Windows 2003. This one copied the whole system drive and then died at the end and deleted the virtual disk it made. Here is the top and bottom of the trace log file on the conversion server. If the email garbles what I'm pasting in below, I can email the log as an

[PATCH] Fix various -Wformat problems.
Updating gnulib has caused -Wformat-signedness to be enabled. This has revealed many problems in C format strings. The safe way to print these is to cast them to uintmax_t and then print then using the %ju
