here and need your help.
I have 5.1 release installed.
I have trouble to get 1280x800 resolution. The driver used is I810. I don't know
if the chipset is too new for the xorg driver, and can anyone tell me
if there is a fix,

Widescreen monitor won't configure to a wide screen
I just put a 1680x1050 LCD monitor on my home system, and I went into
system-config-display to configure it as such, and it just won't take.
I had to tweak some of the settings by hand, but when I log out, I get
the wide screen for both the Nvidia driver splash screen and the login
screen.
But, when I log in, It jumps back to 1280x1024 and refuses to run in
wide screen mode.
Here's the

Problem with widescreen display
I have a dual boot CentOS 5.2 / FC4 machine, and recently I have bought a new
widescreen tft monitor. I used to use a plain 4:3 crt, and after plugging the
16:9 tft naturally X needed reconfiguring. This was easy in FC4, and seemed
as easy in CentOS, but with a wrong result.
Basically, what I did was to run system-config-display to reconfigure for the
new monitor and resolution. All goes

Problems with widescreen (16:9) under CentOS 5 w/ xorg-x11-drv-i810-1.6.5-9.40.el5
I am the tech guy for a local library. We have a network containing
several diskless workstations. The hardware are these P4 boxes:

These little machines have integrated Intel video chips on their

vnc server
I followed these instructions, http://egopoly.com/archives/2006/09/how_to_use_vnc.html to successfully connect to my centos 5.1 box. I assumed I could #chkconfig vncserver on to make this permananet but when I tried to #service vncserver start I got the message no desktop configured. Can anyone point me in the right direction to have vncserver run at startup?
Thanks!

mutt execution by daemon
I have a user w/o a shell that runs an app as a daemon that needs to use
mutt to email an attachment from a script.
During testing when the app was ran as root everything worked:) Now that
we obviously are running as a user w/o a shell this little bit broke. I
used mutt as I needed to send the attachment as mime, and the ability
to specify a muttrc from the cli when executed was useful so we

Screen Resolution issues
Hi. I'm having a rather peculiar problem; when running any fullscreen game that has been set to a smaller resolution than the one I'm using (1680x1050, I have a widescreen monitor), moving my mouse to the edges of the screen kind of shifts the view.
For example, I have Warcraft III running at 1280x960, I move my mouse to the right edge of the screen, and then the view moves along with

No 3D in KDE, other effects work
In Ubuntu 7.10 with KDE, I have compiz running under XGL. Although
Beryl ran fine in Ubuntu 7.04, Compiz will not enable 3D effects such
as wobbly windows. Other effects, such as minimize/restore animations,
work properly. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 6400 / E1505 laptop,
2Ghz Intel DuoCore2, 2GB RAM, ATI X1400, 1680x1050 widescreen. What
should I begin to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.

Configuring 1440 x 900 LCD Monitor
CentOS 4.4
Kernel Release 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL
Monitor: ViewSonic VX1935WM
Video Adapter: Intel 82945 G Express
KDE 3.3
Greetings
I am attempting to configure my ViewSonic VX1935WM widescreen monitor.
Unfortunately this model is not listed in the Display Settings. I have
attempted the generic 1440 x 900 LCD monitor listed. This does not
provide the required resolution. I have edited

Centos 5.7, I10 video, 1920x1080 monitor
I have a Centos 5.7 machine with Intel I10 video (built-in, I guess -- this is
one of those all-in-one mini terminal things) that I'm trying to put a new
1920x1080 monitor onto, without conspicuous success. Prior to this it's been
using a smaller monitor with no issues.
Try as I might I can't get the new monitor to run at its 1920x1080 resolution.
I just realized that I forgot to

Viewport size Q for those with a widescreen Mac.
At the moment I''m short of access to a widescreen Mac. I''m trying to
find out what the pixel size of the viewport is on Safari when you
have it maximised with tabbed browsing and the standard set of
buttons, menus and toolbars in place.
I''ve done the same exercise on Firefox and IE7 on Ubuntu Linux and
Windows, and for a nominal 1280x800 widescreen display you get a

Centos 5.4 on Acer Aspire One
I currently have my Acer Aspire One netbook set up with Fedora 11. I
would like to change it over to Centos 5.4 if I can.
I downloaded the Centos 5.4 i386 livecd image and made a bootable USB
flash drive out of it. Unfortunately, when I boot off of that flash
drive, Grub (I guess) immediately turns the screen entirely white. If I
hit a key I can faintly see the outline of "Press tab to

error rsyncing large file
Trying to rsync a rather large file from a windows server to a centos server
and all but this is working fine.
As it's a 20 gig file I am trying to send the diff of with a -c, I suspect over
the low bandwidth this presents an issue. I also stage this file locally on another
centos server and could calc the diff and create a patch and send that, comparing
checksums etc...
