[qemu-kvm] Network bandwidth limits via libvirt
Hi all, I try to understand why the interface bandwidth limits are not applied to my Ubuntu 12.04 VM (qemu-kvm driver) and I would need some insights. I spawn my VM with OpenStack and when I issue a dumpxml on my domain, I can see that bandwidth limits are set: <interface type='ethernet'> <mac address='02:68:b5:c6:fa:a5'/> <bandwidth> <inbound

Good pratice with a Linux Gateway / Traffic Shapping
Hi, I am the network administrator of my company, I know quite well Windows networking and a few about Linux and its amazing routing and QOS capabilities. Right now, we have a bustable T1, which mean that the bill increase with out T1 use. I have decided to find a way to shape the traffic so I can stay at a raisonable speed of 256 kb/s (Up/down) on my T1. I have linux gateway with 2 nics behind a

Hi I would want to use the patch for squid released by patrick mcHardy, but it requires that squid is located on the same machine that does traffic shaping. My configuration is different: i have the screening HDSL router directly connected to a multi-ethernet firewall and the proxy located on a DMZ box. i would want the firewall doing traffic shaping. Shaping the sum of in/out traffic (IMQ?)
Hello, does anyone have a working solution for the shaping both incoming and outgoing traffic in such way, that for a given class the sum of incoming and outgoing traffic is specified? My ISP does the same thing, it gives me just a line of a defined rate, no matter the traffic direction (i.e. here is the line, the clock speed is 1024kbps, do what you want). I''m a litte bit familiar

Port numbers for traffic shaping
Hello All, I'm not certain that I have my firewall setup to perform traffic shaping correctly for *. I'm using a m0n0wall running on a Soekris 4501 platform. I have traffic shaping set to provide IAX port 4569 with priority outbound access from LAN to WAN. All other outbound access is lower priority. This should in theory accomodate my ADSL connection which is 1.5 Mbps inbound but only

traffic shaping with NAT: IFB as IMQ replacement?
Hello, Sorry for the many Ccs, but I hope to reach all parties involved. I want to do traffic shaping with NAT and I wanted to do it with IFB instead of IMQ [1]. I tried a lot of things but now I am stuck (and maybe confused). The setup: eth0 eth1 WAN/(Internet) <-> Linux Router <-> LAN Linux router: - does NAT for the LANs - runs local processes

Traffic shaping and tun devices
Hi folks, I have three network cards on my Slackware box and eth0 and eth1 are for two Internet connections. They have imq0 and imq1. All traffic shaping works fine. Internal eth2 does no traffic shaping. But recently I have put two OpenVPN tunnels (tun devices) and both work via eth0. So my question is - how to shape the traffic on these tun0 and tun1 devices? Thanks Remus

Shaping known application traffic
Hi, Many of traffic shaper products provide shaping based on certain application type. How can we implement shaping of recognized application types? Like FTP can take only 64Kbps irrelevant of weather FTP Server is running on port 21 or 4096. Thanks for your suggestions. -- Sumit _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl

Closed ports and traffic shaping
First off, please excuse the cross post between lartc and netfiler, the line between the two is very blurred here (at least for me)... A thought just crossed my mind now while working on a new iptables/tc collaboration for a project. I use iptables to basically seal off a linux gateway, we''re very restrictive on what users can do on the connection. For now I''m using destination

Traffic Shaping on a machine that isn't just a firewall
Hi, I''m using Shorewall 4.2.10 in Ubuntu 9.10, and I tried to set up some Traffic Shaping in my network since I share it with my brother and he''s using more than he should. Since this is an old version, I''m using TC_ENABLED=Internal. Everything is working nicely except for the localhost. It falls under the "default" class, and I don''t know how to

I want to shaping FTP traffic.
Dear. folks I want to shaping FTP traffic. I can get following information from Stef Coene's Homepage, www.docom.org. "Ftp uses random ports, so matching the data traffic is not easy. However it can done if you use iptables to mark ftp-data packets and use that mark with the fw filter. For more info see http://home.regit.org/connmark.html. " General information about the conntrack

lc shaping in- and outbound traffic on same box
I''m looking for a way to shape all traffic on a virtual vlan interface, say eth1.100 to a max of 100mbit. The box is a quagga router with eth0 on the inside and vlan interfaces on the eth1 card to our upstream partners. Each partner has his own vlan on eth1. I tried shaping but was only able to shape outbound traffic on the eth1.100 interface. Inbound shaping was also possible, but

Load balancing / Traffic shaping project looking for help
Hi, I''ve managed to create a web based interface to some of the advanced routing capabilities in Linux. Currently it is functional (and pretty, i think :) although far from perfect. I''m looking for people with better programming skills and/or understandings of advanced routing concepts in Linux than I have who''d like to help out with the project. The overall goals

Traffic shaping for IAX and SIP calls through Asterisk?
Hi, Is it possible to put some kind of bridge which will do traffic shaping/prioritising between my 6 external IP addresses and my PPPoA modem interface? My other option is to put some kind of device at the edge of all my networks to shape the traffic in/out. I'd rather do it in one box if possible? thanks Mike

Re: traffic shaping
Hello Chuck! I have 128kbit/s for 70 computers and if several users start several FTP/HTTP/Torrent downloads (or one downloads with several threads) or also open several htmlpages with big content, for other users remain not very much. As i hear Squid make traffic shaping on IPaddress base and in my scenario every user will work in equal borders (as another) for all his connections.
