makefile and path questions
Hi! This morning, I found a system that was still running an ancient samba. I immediately upgraded it to samba 1.9.18p1 and had the opportunity to fiddle with the make file after not doing this for a couple of months. The default makefile sorts the files like this: BINDIR (/usr/local/samba/bin) smbpasswd smbrun smbclient testparm testprns smbrun smbstatus smbpasswd

Debian Wheezy member server from backports to self compile
Hello, I'm unable to update my Samba from 4.1.17 to 4.4.2. I'm looking to build from tar instead. From what I gather the following should be the steps taken. ./configure --without-ad-dc -- sbindir= /usr/sbin --sysconfdir=/etc/samba/ --/usr/share/man/ make make install Am I missing something else? Thanks. -- -James

[patch/cygwin]: Remove setting extra permissions on system directories
Hi, please consider the below patch for OpenSSH 6.7. A fix in POSIX ACL handling in Cygwin turned up this rather old code in the ssh-host-config script. It opens the permissions for some directories, especially /var/empty, for the "system" user for no good reason. This results in sshd refusing to start because the permissions on /var/empty are too open. The below patch fixes that by

Chasing the "ads_add_machine_acct: Insufficient access" problem
Okay, the jist of this whole thing, I get this infamous (?) problem, I have been trying to search though the archives of samba-general on gmane and also in my archive of this list. I have only seen requests for the magical answer. Environment: W2K/W2K3 mixed ADS going Native ADS only soon. Samba 3.0.4 compiled from source on a RHEL AS30 machine. MIT Kerberos v1.3.4 also compiled from source.

winbind fails
We have a windows 2003 dc here at the university and I have successfully setup samba-3.0.2-6.3E on a RHEL WS3 machine. The problem is that after several hours, or several days winbind stops running and connections fail. I have seen instances of this on other sites, but no firm answers. I can provide files and logs if helpful
