Apache won't start, semaphores exhausted
One of our systems run Apache 2.0.52 (httpd-2.0.52-12.2.ent.centos4
rpm). The kernel we're running is 2.6.9-11.ELsmp. After a few weeks
of uptime, Apache refuses to start with the following error in
error.log:
[crit] (28)No space left on device: mod_jk: could not create jk_log_lock
With Apache not running, there're a lot of semaphores left behind by
Apache, e.g.:

Gathering "metal" stats
Hey All,
I’m attempting to gather stats on usage of the “metal”, by which I mean the
physical host’s hardware. I would like to know the CPU, IO, and network
stats for the hardware.
Normally I would get these from /proc/stat, /proc/diskstat, and ifconfig
respectively. However, because of the segregation of VMs and Dom0’s special
relationship as a paravirtualized I don’t know if I can trust this

xentop CPU% wrong?
Hello,
I noticed that the CPU% reported by xentop appears to be too high. With
dom0 idle xentop is reporting between 14-17% CPU utilization while at
the same time top in dom0 is reporting 1-4% CPU utilization. I see that
the TODO for xentop includes a task to make CPU% more accurate but
looking at the code for xentop and libxenstat I''m not sure how to go
about this. Assuming the CPU

xfs and centosplus kernel
I read that XFS has problems with 4K Stack size for Linux on 32-bit
systems. How did we address this in the centosplus kernel? Since what
release of CentOS was this problem resolved?
Is there a quick way to know what size the Linux stack is configured to be
in a system's that's running?
Thanks for your help.

Determine what changed between CentOS 4.1 and CentOS 4.2
Is there a way to determine what package changed from CentOS 4.1 to
4.2 (or between any two versions)? I need to create a yum repository
to upgrade some machines that cannot talk to the Internet.
Thanks for any help.

3ware 9550SX and CentOS
I'm getting a couple of systems that are arriving with the new 3ware
9550sx controller. Does anyone know when this will be natively
supported by CentOS?
Has anyone built an RPM of the driver/module for this new controller?

System hangs silently
I have a total of 20 CentOS 4.1 systems running on fairly new
hardware. About 6 of them are experiencing strange hangs without any
indication -- nothing in /var/log/messages nor on the console --
sometime within 10-30 minutes after a reboot. The systems still
responds to ping but you can't ssh to it. At the console, you could
type "root" at the user prompt but it hangs immediately

the 64-bit CentOS flavor work 32 bit systems? What kind of impact
would this have on performance if the 64-bit OS on 32-bit hardware?

xentop batch mode
Hi guys,
First of all, sorry to send this one here on the centos ml. I know it's kind of off-topic, but the xen-users list seems a dead end, I was hoping some of you guys are experienced in this.
I have a problem with a xen 3.4.2 on Centos 5 x86_64 installation, I need to see the total/used/available memory of dom0 when using xentop, however in batch mode it doesn't seem to work.
If I use

Hi Asterisk Users,
We've been experiencing some tough time regarding a new Asterisk installation
connected to the PSTN via an ISDN PRI with a Digium TE121 with the optional
VPMADT032 echo cancellation module.
For now, I'll focus on something very specific which is summarized on this
email's subject.
However, here are some general facts for the context:

file system defragmentation
I've read in many places that file systems on Linux do not suffer the
same fragmentation problems of Windows systems. No one has provided a
clear explanation as to why fragmentation is not an issue for file
systems such as ext2/3, reiserfs, xfs, etc. Just curious.

How can I determine a Xen server''s overall CPU utilization?
Hello,
I would like to determine overall CPU utilization on a server that''s
running xen, and log this information to a file - such as sar can do
when run in a non-xen environment. I understand that xenmon shows
utilization for each domain, but how can I massage this data to get an
overall host server utilization? I''m looking for a single value that
describes how much of the host

Please help: domU becomes unresponsive
Hi all, sorry to intrude on xen-devel, but I think I need direction
from the expertise here. I''ve admin''d Xen servers of various flavors
for a couple years, but never seen this before. After a period ranging
from several hours to several days, my primary database and
development DomU completely locks up. Net disconnects, but CPU(sec)

qemu-dm memory leak?
Hi,
Me and another sysadmin has independently been researching a problem where DomU randomly locks (Can’t reach it via xl console, no ping / SSH connection, shown as stuck in running-state in xentop) on two of our separate machines (installed completely independently):
Dom0:
Debian 7.0 with Xen version: 4.1.4 and xen-utils 4.1.4-3+deb7u1
Debian 7.1 with Xen version: 4.1
DomU:

Activity logger for Xen Guest Domains using libvirt
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows of any tools I can run on my Dom0 to log
various stats (like CPU usage, memory usage, etc) for each guest
domain for analysis over a period of time? I can see that xentop
displays that information anyway but would be nice to be able to
present that information on a web based interface for day to day
administration.
Also any tools that send out email
