lightdm + xorg.conf + nvidia driver
Hello CentOS-Community, I have to maintain a server that should be useable with VNC and some software requires to run VirtualGL. Also a nvidia graphic card is installed. After downloading and installing the nvidia driver from nvidias homepage and modifying the xorg.conf as mentioned on the virtualgL-homepage, I am not able to restart lightdm anymore. Lightdm should be running, otherwise

[LLVMdev] question about running llvm test-suite on remote machine
Hi, I've looked into use of the remote variables: REMOTE_HOST, REMOTE_CLIENT, REMOTE_USER, etc. Can you tell me how exactly one uses these variables to run the llvm test-suite remotely? As far as I can tell, the local host and remote host directory structures have to match exactly. In addition, it seems that the remote host has to pre-generate building the test executables, while the

autoLogin
I just installed Centos (version 4.4) and wondering how I can change things so I don't have to login. I am aware of the security implications for doing this but I would prefer this if I can do it. I believe it has something to do with autologin and if so how is this configured ?? --- Ted Gervais, Coldbrook, Nova Scotia, Canada

I am running 5.3 on x86_64. I have it set to auto login X11 by editing the /etc/gdm/custom.conf file. Seems like it does NOT always auto login. Seems like maybe 75% of the time it does but then sometimes it doesnt. How can I find out why it doesnt always login? when it doesnt I dont see anything in dmesg or /var/log/messages. Any thoughts are appreciated. Jerry

Getting regularly mailbox desyncs while syncing with imapc
Hello list! I sync approximately ~1000 Mailboxes actually without any problems, except my very own mailbox - Dovecot 2.2.18 (mdbox format) running here. The server from where I sync my mails from runs Dovecot 1.2.4 (with mbox format). The last log line that I receive is: dsync(ms at ddnetservice.de): Warning: Mailbox changes caused a desync. You may want to run dsync again. dovecot error

autologin-user-timeout
Hello, in the assumption that I understand them correctly I specified in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf autologin-user=xxxx autologin-user-timeout=10 so that after 10 seconds the user xxxx is logged-in automatically. What happens is that the user xxxx is logged-in immediately i.e. without any delay. Do I understand the second variable wrong or am I missing something? Thanks for any help. K.D.J.

libvirtd vs XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
I ran into an odd problem today. I wanted to share it here in the hopes of maybe saving someone else some lost time. When you run libvirtd as an unprivileged user (e.g., if you target qemu:///session from a non-root account), then libvirt will open a unix domain socket in one of two places: - If XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is defined, then inside $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/libvirt/libvirt-sock - If

PAM_RUSER never set under ssh2?
Everyone, First my apologies if this has been discussed before on this list, I was unable to find reference to it in the archives. I have a pam module that requires PAM_RUSER to be set however Ive found that if I connect to the remote server (where the pam module is installed) via ssh the PAM_RUSER variable is never set. The PAM_RUSER variable is set within auth-pam.c (line 239 in 3.6p1) as

[PATCH] Tell PAM about remote host earlier
I was browsing the OpenSSH sources (which are very readable, thankyou very much) and noticed that PAM was only being told what host the user is logging in from for account processing - not for password processing. As I can see no reason not to put this in start_pam this is exactly what I have done - and attached a patch to this effect. This allows PAM to fill in rhost= in its audit messages

Patch: Set SSH_AUTHKEY to key id used to authenticate.
Attached is a patch which sets the SSH_AUTHKEY environment variable to be the remaining data at the end of an SSH key which is used for authentication. The motivation behind this is that there are time in which it's useful to know who is on the other end of the connection. For example, if I log in as root on a box, I'd like to be able to configure vi-specific settings, while another user
