io mode=native precisions
Hi, Before switching to io mode=native, I wanted to check if there are any disadvantages or potential problem with this setting. I virtio-blk data plane required to use this setting effectively? (as illustrated here: http://blog.vmsplice.net/2013/03/new-in-qemu-14-high-performance-virtio.html) Is there a requirement on the host kernel (eg minimum version)? Thanks in advance Raph

[Howto] custom and translated AR validation error messages
Hi, I''m putting the finishing touches on a multi-lingual application, and just posted a blog entry on how I did translate validation errors generated by ActiveRecord at: http://www.myowndb.com/blog/?p=4 I found it surprisingly easy, and thought I''d document it. The translation is based on a plugin I plan to publish really really soon, more info whith the upcoming announcement.

Re: Mount URL as cdrom/iso KVM/QEMU
Hi Daniel, I have noticed that it will fail exactly as you said if <cdrom> is first in the boot order, if <hd> is first in the boot order the XML validates and it starts as usual. first in log except below is with cdrom set to first in boot order, second is with hd set first. 2018-08-09 11:39:28.625+0000: starting up libvirt version: 3.9.0, package: 14.el7_5.6 (CentOS BuildSystem

cgroup blkio.weight working, but not for KVM guests
I'm running libvirt 0.10.2 and qemu-kvm-1.2.0, both compiled from source, on CentOS 6. I've got a working blkio cgroup hierarchy which I'm attaching guests to using the following XML guest configs: VM1 (foreground): <cputune> <shares>2048</shares> </cputune> <blkiotune> <weight>1000</weight> </blkiotune>

Unable to use more than 4 serial devices at once.
Hi All. I'm trying to setup a guest within my hypervisor that acts as a Console Server, using 10 USB to Serial adapters. The Host is all setup and can access each Serial Port without problems. I have attempted to add the Serial Connections to a Guest, using both Virtual Machine Manager and by editing the .XML file, and I can add up to 4 Serial devices (Including one for console access to the

Myowndb: a web database built with rails
Hi all, I wanted to announce on this list that I have launched http://myowndb.com which is a web database built with Ruby on Rails. The application lets the administrator users define the data structure through a web interface like in a normal database, with: - tables - enhanced datatypes like emaili, web URL, and a choice in list - relations (one to many, one to one) between tables Once the

how to provide plugin configuration?
Hi, I''m finalising a translation plugin I use in one app. I''d like the plugin the be configurable but am not sure how to provide this configurability. For example, there''s a setting for the cookie name to use when saving user''s prefered language. I thought of having a class TranslationConfig like this: class TranslationsConfig def self.cookie_name

How to change virtfs/9p/v9fs umask
Hi there. My question is regarding virtfs/9p/v9fs [1], not sure what's the appropiate name :) Basically I have a KVM + libvirt server sharing a directory with a guest in mapped mode. It works fine, but the only issue is with the file permissions of the files created by the guest inside the host: -They are 0700 for dirs and 0400 for files -The files belongs to the same user that runs the

Hi, I''m using postgresql 8.1, rails 1.0, and I have a strange problem on a datetime field (timestamp without time zone in postgresql). As shown below, the field "value" sometimes returns a string, and sometimes a Time instance, depending of where the value is used....: * breakpoint session _from inside an instance method_ of the object: value => "1996-05-01

hardware error 0x80000021 on Ubuntu 12.10, need advice
Hi, On a DELL r610 (Intel Xeon L5520) and a Windows guest I have an hardware error. The bug is well known[1][2] and seems fixed with the package 3.5.0-16-generic. But I use 3.5.0-30-generic. Do I need to upgrade to 13.10? Or just the kernel ? Or modify the options of the kvm module? Thanks. [1] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=854983 [2]
