sanlockd, virtlock and GFS2
Hi, I'm trying to put in place a KVM cluster (using clvm and gfs2), but I'm running into some issues with either sanlock or virtlockd. All virtual machines are handled via the cluster (in /etc/cluser/cluster.conf) but I want some kind of locking to be in place as extra security measurement. Sanlock ======= At first I tried sanlock, but it seems if one node goes down unexpectedly,

virtlockd, init script and kill signals
Hi, I've read in the documentation that virtlockd uses SIGUSR1 to dump its state and then re-execs itself. Now I tried it and this seems to fail because virtlockd is being launched without a full path (when using the init script), thus re-exec fails with the error: error : virLockDaemonPreExecRestart:1092 : Unable to restart self: No such file or directory Changing in the init script

Ceph RBD locking for libvirt-managed LXC (someday) live migrations
Hi, I'm trying to build an active/active virtualization cluster using a Ceph RBD as backing for each libvirt-managed LXC. I know live migration for LXC isn't yet possible, but I'd like to build my infrastructure as if it were. That is, I would like to be sure proper locking is in place for live migrations to someday take place. In other words, I'm building things as if I were

Problem with CLVM (really openais)
I'm desparately looking for more ideas on how to debug what's going on with our CLVM cluster. Background: 4 node "cluster"-- machines are Dell blades with Dell M6220/M6348 switches. Sole purpose of Cluster Suite tools is to use CLVM against an iSCSI storage array. Machines are running CentOS 5.8 with the Xen kernels. These blades host various VMs for a project. The iSCSI

Alternatives to cman+clvmd ?
I currently have a few CentOS 5.2 based Xen clusters at different sites. These are built around a group of 3 or more Xen nodes (blades) and some sort of shared storage (FC or iSCSI) carved up by LVM and allocated to the domUs. I am "managing" the shared storage (from the dom0 perspective) using cman+clvmd, so that changes to the LVs (rename/resize/create/delete/etc) are

libvirt and shared storage SAN Fiber Channel
Hi, I'm looking information about using libvirt with san (fiber channel) based storage and googling for a while i don't see anything about it. I send this email in order to get advices about libvirt and shared storage We use here, for 3 years now, 8 linux centos server connected to an hitachi FC SAN (multipath devices). Each server run Xen dom0 and use SAN LUNs to store Virtual machine

Xen on two node DRBD cluster with Pacemaker
Hi all, could somebody point me to what is considered a sound way to offer Xen guests on a two node DRBD cluster in combination with Pacemaker? I prefer block devices over images for the DomU''s. I understand that for live migration DRBD 8.3 is needed, but I''m not sure as to what kind of resource agents/technologies are advised (LVM,cLVM, ...) and what kind of DRBD config

HalfLife on latest CVS
Whilst bored I purchased HalfLife for Windows, having read people mention on Slashdot that it runs on Wine. I run Debian (woody) on an AMD Athlon 1.4GHz machine with 1Gb RAM as my desktop. It currently has a Voodoo3 video card, though I have a dual head Radeon which I'm going to use once I get a monitor that is compatible (my current monitor has a very wavy display with that card). I

1/2 OFF-TOPIC: How to use CLVM (on top AoE vblades) instead just plain LVM for Xen based VMs on Debian 5.0?
Guys, I have setup my hard disc with 3 partitions: 1- 256MB on /boot; 2- 2GB on / for my dom0 (Debian 5.0) (eth0 default bridge for guests LAN); 3- 498GB exported with vblade-persist to my network (eth1 for the AoE protocol). as promised description of my XEN HA setup
Hi all, In threads posted by I believe Jonathan Tripley I promised to post my new XEN HA setup. Hope it can be of some use to some people. In this particular case I''m forced to use SLES 10SP3 with XEN 3.2, which excludes the possibility of using things like cLVM (which I don''t think I need anyway). So: Storage: I use two HP ML370 G5 machines with DRBD and heartbeat on

XEN HA Cluster with LVM fencing and live migration ? The right way ?
Hi, I am trying to build a rock solid XEN High availability cluster. The platform is SLES 11 SP1 running on 2 HP DL585 both connected through HBA fiber channel to the SAN (HP EVA). XEN is running smoothly and I''m even amazed with the live migration performances (this is the first time I have the chance to try it in such a nice environment). XEN apart the SLES heartbeat cluster is

Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

ubuntu, ocfs2 with cman and ctdb
hi guys, we're evaluating the available clustering options to get ctdb up and running for a highly available file server. we've set up both gluster and ocfs2 both on seperate 2 node setups. ocfs2 seems to provide better throughput and iops to samba clients than does gluster and that is comparing a single node server to a ctdb clustered 2 node server. problem with ocfs2 is that i've

winbindd high CPU usage
Hi, I'm using squid+samba/winbindd to do proxy authentication for a AD domain. Using samba 3.0.29 this was working fine. This week I saw 3.2 was released stable, so I decided to upgrade. The compile (using solaris 8, 64bit, gcc 3.4.6) went well and I copied the secrets.tdb to the new version, so I wouldn't need to rejoin the domain. After this starting samba also succeeded, "wbinfo
