SMTP auth with Sendmail
Dear All, I have two machines, a Centos 3.4 machine and a Centos 4.1 machine. I have used the same sendmail.mc file on each, and 3.4 machine does plain SMTP auth with no problems, compiling the same mc file on the 4.1 machine gives this error: xxxxx [x.x.x.x] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA in the logs, it doesn't even try to authenticate, the cyrus sasl rpm

Permissions problem
What am I doing wrong here? I need to be able to write to /var/cvs. This used to work before I moved these groups into an LDAP directory instead of /etc/group: [scarolan at watcher:/var/cvs]$ touch test.txt touch: cannot touch `test.txt': Permission denied [scarolan at watcher:/var/cvs]$ ls -ld drwxrwsr-x 4 cvs cvsgrp 4096 May 18 2008 . Sendmail - STARTTLS not appear on one client
Hi, I have Sendmail configured to use STARTTLS for authentication. On all internet connections and computers (that I have tested) works connection over encrypted SMTP flawlessly. Today I was setting up mail client on PC of my customer and standardily checked boxes, that I want to use SSL for POP3 and SMTP. Next I wanted to check configuration (by sending email from this mailbox to this mailbox)

Best mobile SSH client?
I'm up for a cell phone contract renewal and am considering upgrading my handset. I looked at some devices at my local AT&T store but nothing really jumped out at me. I'm particularly interested in a cell phone that has a reliable ssh client, with ssh-agent and public key authentication abilities. Those of you who administer systems remotely, what mobile ssh client do you recommend?

Good md5sum snapshot tool?
I have a server that is undergoing some patching soon and would like to make note of any files that have changed after the patching is complete. Can you recommend a tool that uses md5sum snapshots to do a quick before and after test, showing anything that's changed on a particular file system?

my spammer list
Hello, Thanks to some nice people on here and other forums I have pretty much finalized my whole mail system on centos 6.x. With all the checks, greylisting, dev/null of any 8+ spam level SA, I still get a few mails. It seems like everytime I enable a new protectant, the mail stops spamming for a few hours...then the spammers decide I am worthy of using better methods against me..and more

sendmail and rbl blocking - generating statistics
I have enabled the feature in sendmail.mc to check with spamhaus for spammers. However since this block is being made at MTA level, I would like to know is something can be done to obtain statistics of blocked attemps. thanks -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez Panama Sistemas Integradores de Telefonia IP y Soluciones Para Centros de Datos Panama,

Gnu Screen - terminal issues
I really like gnu screen and use it everyday but there's one thing that is a bit inconvenient, and that's the odd line wrapping and terminal size issues that seem to pop up. The problem crops up when I type or paste a really long command, and then go back and try to edit it; the text starts to wrap over itself and you have no idea what you are editing. Any fixes for this?

Limit RAM used by a perl script
I have a perl script which runs from a cron job. How would you limit the amount of RAM that this script is allowed to consume? Is there a ulimit setting that will accomplish this? If so does ulimit have to be run each time the script is run, or is there a way to set it permanently?

Help with iptables rule for blocking UDP port 53
I would like to block all DNS queries that come from one particular ip address. I used TCPdump to verify that the queries were in fact, coming from this IP: [scarolan at server:~]$ sudo tcpdump -n udp port 53 and src 10.100.1.1 tcpdump: listening on eth0 11:12:17.162100 10.100.1.1.19233 > 10.100.1.61.domain: 14270+ A? server.domain.com. Is there a flag for the df command to get the total disk space used on all filesystems as one number? I have a server with a lot of mounted shares. I'm looking for a simple way to measure rate of data growth across all shares as one total value.

I have configured the submission service as follow: submission_host = smtp.example.com submission_relay_host = localhost submission_relay_port = 8587 submission_relay_rawlog_dir = /var/log/dovecot/ submission_relay_trusted = yes My main issue is that until I login, dovecot-submission won't connect to the backend and query the

Sendmail and pmtu discovery
We have an issue with some customers who refuse to accept ICMP traffic to their mail servers. It seems that they have put Mordac, preventer of information services in charge of their firewall policy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minor_characters_in_Dilbert#Mordac). My mail logs are showing that customers who specifically disallow ICMP traffic have many "Connection Reset"

Sendmail.cf / access.db
I've noticed from the sendmail logs, certain IP's are being blocked via the known spammers configuration in the sendmail.cf. What I also note is in my access file, I have several TLD's that are listed, yet are NOT being blocked. Yes, I do call a make after each edit of the access list, and going by the timestamp on access.db, it appears to being updated, yet again, in the sendmail

Iptables not blocking UDP port 53
I'm attempting to block access to port 53 from internet hosts for an internal server. This device is behind a gateway router so all traffic appears to come from source ip 10.100.1.1. XDMCP - no GDM login, only gray screen with X
I'm having trouble getting the GDM login screen to show up when I connect from a remote host. I'm using Xming on the local Windows machine, but every time I connect to the remote server all I get is a gray window with the X cursor. I have "Enable=true" in the [xdmcp] section of /etc/gdm/custom.conf. IPtables is disabled. I've googled around and read through the xdmcp page
