See tools/virsh-console.c for an example use of virDomainOpenConsole.
virDomainOpenGraphics is probably similar.

Your question is very vague. What are you trying to accomplish, so that
we can better determine how to answer it?

Vepa use vf?
1. Does vepa mode in libvirt use sr-iov ?
2. How can I do port mirroring with sr-iov?
vepa
This network uses a macvtap "direct" connection in "vepa" mode to
connect each guest to the network (this requires that the physical
interfaces used be connected to a vepa-capable hardware switch. The
physical interface to be used will be picked from among those listed in

How do I close a console connection?
I'm working on (re-) implementing serial console support in virtualbmc
[1], and one of the issues I'm hitting right now is that after
establishing a console connection via...
self._stream = self._conn.newStream(libvirt.VIR_STREAM_NONBLOCK)
self._domain.openConsole(None, self._stream, 0)
...I can't figure out how to close the console. Subsequent calls to
openConsole fail

Starting a program inside VM through libvirt
Hi again.
I was just wondering if there are any support for running programs inside a
VM through libvirt. From what I can see in the API the only solution I
found was connecting to the VM with openConsole and running the program I
want. This however seems a bit tricky through Python and I was just
wondering if there are any simpler solutions.
Best regards.

Recent (6.02) PXELINUX on Soekris net4501
Dear all,
I'm trying to boot a recent PXELINUX on a brand new Soekris net4501
(comBIOS 1.33). This combination appears to not work out of the box...
I see much advice floating around from a few years ago, hinting that
earlier versions of PXELINUX might have worked. However before resorting
to archaeology I'd be interested in feedback from others who might have
got through this.

One possible plan for remote support
John,
It's probably worth setting out from what the problem is / what we are
trying to solve here.
At the moment if you run a command like:
virt-inspector -d Guest
then libguestfs asks libvirt [-d option] for the XML corresponding to
the libvirt guest called 'Guest'. This will contain disk sections
like this:
<disk type='block' device='disk'>

Debugging
Hi!
It's indeed better to open a new thread for this. So, here's my test
session:
$ qemu -fda extlinux.144 -s -S
Then in another terminal:
$ gdb extlinux.elf
(gdb) set architecture i8086
(gdb) target remote localhost:1234
Remote debugging using localhost:1234

Qemu-guest agent
Hi all,
I am new to libvirt, I am trying to execute some commands inside guest
domains from my host machine using libvirt-Python API. So far I have been
able to open up a stream but I am not sure how to send commands on the
stream (through virDomainOpenConsole). After hours of searching through
different forums I found out that there is a utlity called qemu-guest agent
which can solve my problem.

Syslinux LUA -- output not visible in UEFI mode?
Hello all,
We're having the following issue: when in UEFI mode,
any output/errors from a lua script is invisible!
This occurs even just running 'lua -v'. It runs and returns to
a (visible) 'boot:' prompt, but there is simply no output visible
from lua! (It does do a linefeed, but no visible text appears.)
Has anyone encountered this? And/or know of a solution?

[PATCH] console: Close stdin, stdout, stderr on ldlinux.c32 unload
From: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming at intel.com>
The location of __file_info[] and ansicon_counter are split between
the core and ldlinux.c32. We can end up calling __ansicon_close (from
fp->oop->close) in the process of reloading ldlinux.c32, and while
ansicon_counter is set to its initialised data value of 0 when
reloading ldlinux.c32, the core is never reloaded, and so

You had better to ask this kind of question to libvirt-users at redhat.com
in the future, it's a user mail listing, you may ask all kind of libvirt
usage questions if you want, the following is some reference:

Hello,
I just upgraded some of my el6xen boxes to latest CentOS 6.7, Xen 4.4.3 and dom0 3.18.17 rpms, and noticed these new problems:

[PATCH net v2] virtio-net: don't disable guest csum when disable LRO
From: Tonghao Zhang <xiangxia.m.yue at gmail.com>
Open vSwitch and Linux bridge will disable LRO of the interface
when this interface added to them. Now when disable the LRO, the
virtio-net csum is disable too. That drops the forwarding performance.
