virDomainBlockJobInfo intentionally does not document units - so the
underlying hypervisor can use whatever units it wants (bytes, 512-byte

The accurate CPU usage of a domain?
Hi,all
I want to get a relatively accurate cpu usage of a domain. I have a few questions about virDomainGetInfo: struct virDomainInfo{ unsigned char state : //the running state, one of virDomainState unsigned long maxMem :// the maximum memory in KBytes allowed unsigned long memory :// the memory in KBytes used by the domain unsigned short nrVirtCpu :// the number of virtual CPUs for the

cpuTimes and qemu-kvm on F13
http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html#virDomainInfo
http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html#virVcpuInfo
Both virDomainInfo and virVcpuInfo have a nanosecond cpuTime field. How
do the two related to one another?
With some experiementing, it appears the virDomainInfo::cpuTime is equal
to the host CPU time used by the qemu-kvm process for the domain. It
also appears that the

Collecting system stats
Hi,
I am trying to create a report across all my KVM hypervisors using libvirt
API and I need some assistance in figuring out the right API calls. My
report will contain the total available memory, CPU, disk across all
hypervisors, versus the amount used by the virtual machines. This report
will help figure out if we are running low on hypervisor disk, CPU or
memory and if we need to add more.

ESX(i) implemented functions
Dear All,
I would like to know what functions and classes are implemented in the
ESX(i) driver ? i am trying to use virsh to retrieve some simple information
such as vcpuinfo domain, but it is not working, so I would like to know what
functions are implemented in libvirt ESX(i) driver. Also i checked the
http://libvirt.org/drvesx.html and nothing is mentioned there.
Thank You,

Re: How to find domain os type and ip address
Hi All,
I am using the libvirt-0.5.1.jar and downloaded from this link
ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/java.
1) To find the os type of domain I use this method getOSType(). But it
returns the kvm or hvm instead of windows and linux. Is the any way to find
the original os type of domain?
2) Please give is there any option or method available to find the ipaddress
of domain?
Thanks & Regards

getting CPU usage through virsh command or libvirt API
Hi,
Is it possible to get the CPU usage of a guest through a virsh command? I have tried almost all the commands (vcpuinfo, cpu-stats, etc.) that gets the details of a guest cpu, but it only returns the cpu time. Is there any command that returns the cpu usage (just like the graph that virt-manager displays) of a guest? Or do I have to create a program using libvirt API? Thanks in

virDomainGetInfo() returns wrong domain state
Hi Team,
I have written below code to get the VM state at run time. I found, though the VM is in shut-off state, when I use the function virDomainGetInfo(); I get state as running. Could you please let me know what wrong I am doing. To know the actual VM state I used 'virsh list' and it clearly shows the VM is in shut-off state. Please find the log and code snippet below.

Live Migration failure: this function is not supported by the connection driver: virDomainMigrateToURI2
Hi everyone,
I’m testing the new openstack kilo on ubuntu15.04 and hypervisor is xen4.5.
I can creat instance successfully , but live migration is always failed. Error report like this:

About the change of a VM's vcpu count in runtime?
Hi,
We know that there is a command "setvcpus" in virsh used to "change
number of virtual CPUs", now we just have the need to change vcpu count
dynamically for a running VM, so I tried this command (the vcpu count is
2 in the VM xml file), below is the result:
virsh # setvcpus 3 --count 4
error: invalid argument: requested vcpus is greater than max allowable

vcpupin and kvm
Hi.
Can anyone confirm if vcpupin works correctly with kvm? If set I pin a
vcpu it shows up correctly via vcpuinfo, but querying via taskset shows
the cpu is not pinned.
Thanks,

using more than 1 core by a virtual machine
My virtual machine xml file has <vcpu>2</vcpu> clause while the host has
2 physical cpus (cores).
Is this enough to cause a VM running 2 endless loop threads to use the 2
cores ?
In my case the VM running reports (cat /roc/cpuinfo) that it has 2 vcpus
but it uses only 1 core (at a time) because
the 'top' at the host shows 100%cpu (out of total 200%) used by the

Setting CPU type for a vm

so it is seen by the vm as a proper 32bit one. In its xml file, I have

<boot dev='hd'/>
<bootmenu enable='yes'/>

[PATCH 00 of 16] libxl: autogenerate type definitions and destructor functions
The series introduces auto-generation of the type definitions used in
the libxl interface followed by auto-generation of a destructor
function for each type. In the future it may be possible to use the
related data structures for other purposes, for example auto-generation
of the functions to marshal between C and language binding data types.
tools/_libxl_types.h should be identical both before

[PATCH v2 0/5] xl: allow for node-wise specification of vcpu pinning
Hi all,
This is the second take of a patch that I submitted some time ago for allowing
specifying vcpu pinning taking NUMA nodes into account. IOW, something like
this:
* "nodes:0-3": all pCPUs of nodes 0,1,2,3;
* "nodes:0-3,^node:2": all pCPUS of nodes 0,1,3;
* "1,nodes:1-2,^6": pCPU 1 plus all pCPUs of nodes 1,2
but not pCPU 6;
v1 was a single patch, this is

Re: libvirtError: block copy still active: disk not ready for pivot yet
I understand that libvirt provides async events that are triggered once the
block job reaches ready state and successfully pivots as it is reported by
qemu.
Whats the event that is triggered and what's the handler that we have to
implement?
To be more specific, I am looking for the onEVENT callback method that is
invoked when the event is fired.

Please, any information's are useful to me.

Re: Collecting system stats
If you need to continuously track libvirt metrics, you might want to
install Host sFlow agents on each of your KVM hypervisors:
http://host-sflow.sourceforge.net/
The Host sFlow agent is a lightweight daemon that links to the libvirt
library on the hypervisor and sends hypervisor and VM metrics using the
sFlow protocol to a central collector. You could use an sFlow analyzer like
Ganglia to
