how to setup network filter
Hi All,
I am new to libvirt and encounter a strange problem to set up network
filter in a NAT network.
I launched VMs in a single host using NAT, i.e. interface
type='network'. Now I want to control the outbound traffic from VM
instance - only allow the VM to asses a set of ip addresses. My
network filter xml is as follows. The problem is once I change the VM
xml, shutdown and start VM,

Accepting RELATED, ESTABLISHED (TCP) connections into VM using Network Filters
Hi,
Over the past few days I've been trying to get a prototype working of a stateful firewall for a Virtual Machine using Libvirt's network filters.
My goal is to replace the current custom Python/Java code in the Apache CloudStack [0] project by Network Filters of Libvirt.
Both IPv4 and IPv6 should work, but I started off with IPv4 and I have issues with accepting back

altering virtual network driver iptables behavior
I have the need to modify the behavior of the virtual network driver's
behavior and how it deals with routed networks. I'm running
libvirt-0.8.3-2.fc14.
According to http://libvirt.org/firewall.html, the following is
automatically added to the FORWARD chain of iptables when a network type
of "routed" is started up:
"Allow inbound, but only to our expected subnet.

Easy solution for custom firewall rules-

I read over those resources and I did what I thought would be correct,
but it's not having any effect.
I created a new nwfilter like this:
<filter name='allow-virbr2-vpn' chain='ipv4' priority='-700'>
<rule action='accept' direction='in' priority='500'>

OpenStack+libvirt+lxc: lxcContainerGetSubtree:1199 : Failed to read /proc/mounts
Hi,
I'm running OpenStack on CentOS 6.3 to manage lxc instances. And running
into series of problem relating libvirt and lxc interaction.
For example, libvirt_lxc segfault (
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=874549) which has an upstream
fix. And another bugs such as fail to start when SELinux disabled.
Finally, I decides to adopt libvirt 0.10.2, self compiled

Serving DHCP and DNS from a KVM guest
Hello All,
I am trying to set up a cobbler server running as a guest on an isolated
network. I'm having trouble figuring out how I can forward the DHCP and DNS
traffic to this guest instead of DNSMASQ on the host. So far I have only
tried to get dhcp working by enabling the 'allow-dhcp-server' on a guest
named test and setting the $DHCPSERVER variable through a filterref
parameter

Networkfilters in Routed setup
Hello!
Since i could not find any information on the internet about this subject, i'm going to try my luck on this list.
I'm trying to setup network-filter on a routed setup. I have a root-server at Hetzner, a german hosting provider.
Along with my server i ordered a (/28) subnet to be able to setup dedicated IPs for my virtual machines (KVM).
My Server is running Ubuntu 12.04 with

Problems with nwfilters/iptables
Hi all,
I've got a problem with nwfilters/iptables. For one of my guest's
interfaces, I have established the following filter:

<uuid>94fdd15b-b380-ba8c-6685-91206829adc7</uuid>

East-west traffic network filter
Hello,
I would like to make filter that allows communication only between
specified VMs. Those VMs should be specified by their MAC address. The
filter should extend clean-traffic but I was not able to get it working
with that reference. I have came up with modified clean-traffic which works
fine [1]. Is there a way to achieve the same behavior with reference to
clean-traffic?
Thank you.

FYI: a short guide to libvirt & network filtering iptables/ebtables use
I just wrote this to assist some Red Hat folks understanding
what libvirt does with iptables, and thought it is useful info
for the whole libvirt community. When I have time I'll adjust
this content so that it can fit into the website in relevant
pages/places.

Centos 8 server rebooting...
Can someone provide some guidance with my server, I have a fairly new
centos 8 server, pretty much just a KVM host but I have noticed that its
dumping and rebooting at various times. Journalctl does not go back past
the reboot so I am unable to catch what may be causing it, it appears to be
KVM from /var/log/messages and it appears I should have a kernel dump file
but I am unable to find it. I

Problems when filtering on icmpv6
Hi,
I am trying to prevent my qemu guest machines from sending IPv6 router
advertisements over their network device. To that end, I have written this
filter definition:
<filter name='no-ipv6-router-advertisement' chain='root' priority='-690'>
<rule action='drop' direction='out' priority='600'>
<icmpv6 type='134'/>

macvtap direct and ip spoofing
Hi there. I have configured kvm domain (rhel6.4) with ethernet bridged over
macvtap, and found no filtration applied except mac. 'virsh' just silently
ignoring attributes 'filterref' and 'ip address' in different formats. No
error on validate stage. Config examples:
...
<interface type='direct'>
<mac address='52:54:00:31:ae:1a'/>

Lack of ebtables rules when using nwfilters
Hi
I am using libvirt (0.9.12) with openstack and xen. It looks like libvirt
is not creating ebtables rules against arp spoofing etc. Here are my

Problems getting nwfilter to work
Hi folks,
I'm using libvirt 3.9.0 running under CentOS 7.5. I want the guests,
which are all within the same subnet (e.g. 10.0.0.x.), only talk to
their default gateway (e.g. 10.0.0.1) but to each other. This is caused
by a design issue of our network platform. I set up a filter rule and
attached it to the interface of a guest using nwfilter-define:
<filter name='private_ip'

libvirt nwfilter
To take advantage of the filters, is it as simple as adding these couple
of lines in a guest's xml file like the example from
https://libvirt.org/formatnwfilter.html#nwfconcepts ?
<devices>
<interface type='bridge'>
<mac address='00:16:3e:5d:c7:9e'/>
<filterref filter='clean-traffic'>
