xen clock and ntp issue
Hi list,
I have a problem with this stuff, i read many documents about it but i
would like to know if anyone have got to resolve the problem. The point is
that my vm has the clock unsynchronize, i tried many things and it seems
that its work fine but im not sure. Now im using ntpd to synchronize the
time but im not trust on it because it didnt work before. First, i tried

Updating hardware clock from cron
Is there a package to do this?
Normally the hardware clock is set during shutdown if one is running ntpd.
But if a long-running server shuts down unexpectedly, this isn't done, and
the hardware clock might be off by a lot when it comes back up. So setting
it periodically from a cron job could be useful.
What do others do? Adding a one liner to /etc/cron.daily that invokes

Re: Time syncing after VM suspend/resume
Look into the "panic" option to ntpd - once the gap gets to big (such as
when the VM is suspended for a few hours) it goes into freewheel and
doesn't sync - its in the ntp docs.
ntpd doesn't work well (you get ages where a machine is way out of date,
or fails to sync ever. I run either chrony (same problem) or ntpd and
run a script on startup to restart guest ntp/chrony from

i am coming from UML, and now i evaluate Xen on my desktop:

Does any know of a way to sync the hardware clock without a reboot?

Questions about fast clock in 64-bit linux hvm
Hello all,
I''ve got a couple of questions about an issue I''m seeing in Linux HVM
guests on 64-bit AMD systems. The clock is running slightly fast, and it
builds over time at different rates on different guests to become an issue
in virtual server pods we''re testing. I upgraded to Xen 3.2.0 from 3.1.2
recently but the issue hasn''t improved so far. I have a

Clock fast - work around
Well, to the clock being fast work around, I kind of found a way to
work around it for now...
1) use a distribution that supports VMI (VMware's paravirtualization)
2) enable VMI paravirtualization support in VMware Workstation 6 VM's profile
3) use vmi-timer as the clocksource (as opposed to pit, acpi_pm, etc.)
4) CPU must be constantly at maximum frequency
For 1), I use Ubuntu 7.10

Follow-up on Fast clock under VMWare
Hi everyone:
Just a follow up on the fast clock issue:
"Can you double-check that 'cat
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq' outputs the
same number as your 'cpuKHZ' setting in your config.ini file?"
There is no cpufreq directory under /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0; all
I see is "cache" (dir), "crash_notes" (a file) and

32bit HVM within CentOS5 x86_64+xen3?
Hi *!
I have to install a xen virtualization host that will start with 4GB RAM
and will maybe grow to 8GB in the future. And there has to be a 32bit
winXP domU. Is CentOS5(.1) x86_64 able to run 32bit HVMs or do i have to
stick with i386/PAE?

Lotus Notes and Daylight Saving Time
Hi Folks,
how do you handle the change from standard time to daylight saving time?
We are using LotusNotes 6.5.1 and Wine 20041019 on Kubuntu 5.10
Breezy Badger. This is the combination where we experienced the least
amount of Bugs.
Our hosts run UTC on the hardwareclock and live in the timezone
Europe/Vienna, which will change from CET to CEST on sunday.
Tests have shown, that

NTP and hardware clock
Hi,
I had the following problem today. Because of a misconfigured
network switch one system suddenly didn't have any network.
After a reboot (with the network still unavailable) NTPD refused to start.
Most likely because the initial ntpdate failed to work. I find this
troubling, because when the network was restored, NTPD could have resumed
working (like I'd expect from a true

simplest boot to set hardware clock
Well I found a significant source of my problems with these decTOPs.
Hardware clock is back at Jan 2006. And many things fail.....
And there is no way to access the bios from a boot sequence.
On the one I discovered this, I watched everything get errors during all
the reboots a Trixbox install goes through.
Once I was allowed to log in, I ended using
