update from local repo mirror
so this may be an odd question, but my google fu seems to be failing me. I've created a local mirror of centos 5 & 6 with various instructions across the net, it seems to be functional, syncs on a regular basis, and is generally usable (I've built machines with kickstart/netboot from it and they seem generally workable). my difficulty comes up when I try to use the local mirror for

Best way to hold at 5.3 release
I need to do some testing with 5.3 as its suggested that 5.4 has "some bugs in the toolchain and libc". That being the case, I can install with a url and repo line pointing to a mirror with 5.3 still but how does one properly make sure during subsequent uses of yum it doesn't attempt to use 5.4 rpms? Is it simple enough to just manually set '$releasever' to 5.3 in the repo

Mock Questions
Just started using mock to rebuild some srpms. I have two I want to rebuild, problem is the first creates a dep that is required by the second. Is there an automated way to populate an additional repo/cache that mock would look at when building the second so I could queue both? Although I haven't tried, I presume I could drop the output from the first build into a dir, createrepo it and add

Creating a local repo
I have created a local repo, set its priority highest, and populated it with xen-3.1.0-1.i386.rpm and kernel-xen-2.6.18-3.1.0.i386.rpm yet when I do a yum list *xen* I don't see those rpm's? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks! jlc

(a) WinPower RPM available? (b) where to install if use tar.gz file?
Two quick and simple questions; I want to install the "WinPower" software for my new UPS. On their web site, they have a tar.gz file available for download. I know the reasons for staying with RPM, if at all possible. I''ve Googled and Yahood for ""WinPower"+RPM+Linux and get hits, but no obvious RPM. I tried "yum install winpower" and the response was

error rsyncing large file
Trying to rsync a rather large file from a windows server to a centos server and all but this is working fine. As it's a 20 gig file I am trying to send the diff of with a -c, I suspect over the low bandwidth this presents an issue. I also stage this file locally on another centos server and could calc the diff and create a patch and send that, comparing checksums etc... A quick look at

createrepo command for 6.4 respin
Hi List, I have been searching for the correct createrepo command to make a 6.4 respin. We have been doing this with previous versions using createrepo -u "media://$discinfo" -g ${DIR}/my_kickstart${VER}/comps.xml . Which had worked fine until now. OT: Local Mirror problems, wrong paths to RPMs with yum update
This week I set up a local mirror for a few dists, including Centos 4.0 and 4.2, and Fedora Core 3 and 4. I'm using a script called yum-pull. For the most part I really like the script, it automates the setup of your mirrors and tries a bunch of different mirrors when it goes out to get updates, if it fails on one it tries another. It uses the usual suspects, createrepo and repoview, among

yum repository and createrepo
I've setup a local yum repository for about 25 workstations and I'm using rsync from a local mirror. Do I need to create my own XML headers, i.e. the 'repodata' directory, or since I'm syncing the whole updates directory can I use the 'repodata' directory from the mirror? I also have a question on using createrepo. The directory layout is: ~/updates/
